you have never been a war situation so dont pretend like you ll know what to do.
| quote: | We do have troubled youth in this country, as evidenced by events in high schools in Colorado and Arkansas, and on college campuses in places like Virginia.
The difference is the United States CONDONES such actions. It tries very hard to prevent such things from developing. |
Really?whats up with all this violents in your country?the gnag problem in the U.S is far more worst then anything else.Your leaders are choosing to ingore the real problems and they are trying to fix other nations in the world.Too bad you dont see it that way.
| quote: | The opposite is appearantly true in countries like Iran where they teach you that its okay to "blow up", and I don't mean on drugs.
So I think the Iranian youths are highly influenced by what their adults tell them, and what is validated by their leaders. |
lol show me proof that they teach such bull in Iran.I lived in Iran when I was younger and not once any of my teachers told me to go blow myself up for anything.so you are clearly talkin out of your mouth once again.
| quote: | | What access and information is it that you speak of that these Iranian youths can tap into? |
lets me tell you something you yank,Iran is no Afghanisten or Iraq, they are alot modern then you think, everyone has a satelite dish in their houses with access to everywhere, and last time I checked everyone had internet in their houses.People dont live in a in cage.
| quote: | | Regardless, I just know for a fact that I'd take it any day over living in a place like Tehran. Appearantly the Iranians who live here feel the same way. |
ya please stay in Nashville,we wouldnt want someone like you to go anywhere else. You have no respect for the world.Truly a waste of life. |

You're right I don't b/c that's somethhing for the local police and state to deal with. You need a strong mayor like Guiliani to make things happen. Gang problems are far worse though in other parts of the world, including places in Latin America or some of the poorer South-East Asian countries.

The president of Iran didn't deny this when Wallace asked him about it. Just b/c you weren't brainwashed doesn't mean other Iranians aren't. Also let me remind you that you're one of the more vocal anti-western supporters on this board.

Everyone in Iran has a satellite dish? That's extraordinary. There are tens of millions of Americans who don't have cable/satellite yet everyone in Iran does. This despite the fact that America is far richer then Iran...
I also read earlier today on another thread in this very forum that the Iranian government has banned the use of high speed internet. You think the American government is going to follow suit?

Two of my favorite cities in the world that I've been to are Amsterdam and Geneva. In Canada I would say Vancouver is my fave though Toronto is definitely kickin. Great big melting pot.
I'd like to travel to places like Australia, Japan, and Brazil, and maybe Dubai. However, I have no desire to go to Iran :) |

Lol, talk about using the wrong word. I don't think "condones" is the word you're looking for there. :stongue:
Furthermore, though you might have a point from time to time (even if I don't always agree with it), each time you purposely mispell Ahmadenijad's name, I lose total respect for your argument. It's one thing to tear him down through reason and logical discourse, but completely another thing to resort to immature ad hominems. In fact, calling anyone who disagrees with you a terrorist is about the surest way to convince everyone that you are yourself quite nutty. |

Oh well, I guess that means you're not a big fan of John Stewart and the Colbert Report. They laugh at Ahmedanicrap's name all the time. |

They do it to be funny, you do it as part and parcel of your argument. A big difference. |

If I make a joke about communism, it's funny, but if I go around calling people communists just because I disagree with them, it's just me being an idiot.
And if I mispell something for comedic effect, it's funny, but if I mispell something to show my disdain for it in an intellectual setting, I appear anything but intellectual. |

Wow, just wow man. You never cease to amaze me. You know next to nothing I see about America's cities. Maybe you should ask New Yorkers about how safe their town was before Rudi compared with when Rudi was the mayor. He made the streets safer, a lot safer.

The world constanly begs for America's money. Whether it's to help a failing economy, or to have Americans purchase their products. Nobody has a bigger spending power then the American public.
America also has a tendancy to fix world problems when other countries seek America's assistance, which happens a LOT, or when certain countries try to with America.
As for gangs, like I said the situation in America is a lot better then in a lot of other countries.

Well, real New Yorkers love Bloomsburg. But definitely not Giuliani. My roomate is from Manhattan, and he confirms. Anecdotal evidence maybe, but Giuliani's poll numbers in NYC are less than impressive. |

Bloomberg is great too, but when Rudi was mayor he's the one who really pushed for the change. He's the one that helped transform massive parts of Manahattan and Brooklyn into safer neighborhoods. Up until Rudi the population of NYC was constantly decreasing. It went down from nearly 8 million in the 70s to about 7 million in the early 90s. Now the population of the 5 boroughs of NYC is 8.2 million, its highest figure ever. So appearantly a lot of people would rather live in the city then live in the suburbs.
The population of the city of L.A. hasn't grown nearly as fast or as much, even though L.A.'s size is actually far bigger. Most people who move to southern California move to the suburbs.
Or what about where you currently live? In DC. The population of the city is finally starting to grow again, but nowhere nearly as fast as the suburbs. DC's city population peaked at nearly 900,000 in the 50s. Now its down to less then 600,000. Meanwhile metro DC has about 5 million residents. Combine it with Baltimore and you've got over 8 million people in the area. Baltimore, by the way, is a city where the population continues to drop (peaked at close to a million, now with a little over 600,000)
If we really wish to study unsafe cities that have led to severe white flight we can always refer to Detroit. At one time the city had 1.8 million residents (the 1950s). Now? about 850,000 people. |
