somebody asking for advice on getting an AGP card for their P4 is obviously not in the market for buying a whole new system

as far as the ATI suggestions go, i dont know, i havent owned one since the 9800 pro. all i know is that anandtech gave the GS an award for midrange vid card.

I told him what he was best doing. My PC is AGP but I know buying a card for that is pointless and instead of buying such a card I would save for a new PC and therefore speand my cash more efficiently.

The 9800pro is a very VERY old card, and when it was current, it was kind of the hill. If interested, you can find great reviews and comparisons on extremetech.com

Plain and simple, there just isn't a faster card on the AGP bus interface than the ATI x1950 series.

lol I bet, albeit I'm a little more aroused by my 768mb GTX :p
They really are some awesome pieces of hardware. My buddy at work just installed the 640mb card, and there really is not that noticeable of a difference between his card and mine. Merely on ultra-high resolutions.

Well there are currently very few games that support DX 10, why would they get on to DX 10.1 unless DX 10 has some problems (which I have heard it does but so does almost anything made by Microsoft). But those who've forked over $500 - $600 on a GTX about a year ago shouldn't have to upgrade for another two more years.
