Wooo, finally found something in Koh Phangan - and it was hard! I must have sent 15 different inquiries. I'm staying on Haad Salad, the beach just past Haad Yao (where I wanted to stay if I had the choice). I was also able to get only a 3 night stay - Dec 30 to Jan 2.
So now I'm looking for a place to stay in Koh Tao Dec 26 - Dec 30 - any suggestions for specific beaches or areas there?
Getting excited now... :D |

truthfully, you wont find beaches in ko tao like you will in phangan.
most of the shoreline is rocky.
there is a very cool bungalow operation on the very east side (i forget the name) the bungalows are terraced down a cliff- side on stilts and overlook a beautiful rocky shoreline and bay. im sure if you mention this to someone on tao they will know the place.
rent a scooter on phangan if you can and spend the day exploring the island. it is truly the nicest of the 6 in thailand.
hope this helps.

Thanks!
I know the beaches on koh phangan are nicer than koh tao, but I don't think I could stay all 7 nts there...I want to stay on more than one of the islands. Plus, KT has amazing diving!
I think I've got a place at Lotus resort or something...I was really surprised at how booked up Koh Tao is already, but I guess it is smaller. |

Koh Tao was great. My place in Koh Phangan is a little remote for my liking, but given the time of year, beggars can't be choosers. It's a gorgeous resort, just not ideal for someone travelling alone.
Truth be told, I'm about ready to go home....I don't know how people do months and months of travelling. I guess I am more of a homebody than I thought! |

i'm sure it's just 'cause you're doing it solo and not with someone. Are you feeling home sick or just not enjoying it as much as you thought?
more pics would be awesome. i wish i could be in Thailand again... right now actually :sadgreen: |

I Thailand and SE asia this summer. In Thailand we went to Chaing Mai (then into Laos and Cambodia). After back to Bangkok to Ko Chang, Ko Tao, Ko Phagnan then to Railay (Hat Ton Sai) ... |
tempoman... can you let me know how you got from place to place? I'm looking at the same general trip... Bangkok to Chiang Mai, possibly to Laos > Cambodia > islands > back to Bangkok. I've got from Feb 1 - 24th basically... thinking of getting back to Bangkok Feb 20ish to spend last few days in around there.
I've been able to find cheap flights (~$50) from BKK to Chiang Mai but to Laos and then onto Cambodia and then islands it's not so easy. |
