Hey let's not forget all the games PS3 owners have been waiting for! Ya know, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk... :haha:
Sony better come out with some good games quick, or once Blue Ray players get cheaper there will be no reason to buy one.
Anyways, I digest...
I wanna see Resident Evil too :) |
You really just have to look at the history of most consoles. Especially the recent ones. The companies have this tendency to release the systems a bit early, largely because they hare their marketing setup, budgets to meet, and have to keep their word they give to stockholders.
On just about any system, it has a decent launch (in which Sony and MS's focus seems to be sure to have as many titles available as possible then worry about quality titles because the bigger the number the better it is for PR) and then the first year is full of mediocre games. You might get lucky and find a create gem, but for massive gams it's usually lacking. Sports games and PORTS from a system that's already out do not count in this area as they are games that are usually started on another platform first if dev kits aren't available.
Anyhow, large reason why there are often only mediocre the first year is because for a lot of companies, they only receive a good number of dev kits months in advance. It's a new system, new software, new dev tools. It takes time getting used to. And when companies get comfy with the system and see what it can do, that's when they can take advantage of the graphics, better AI, better sound, etc etc etc. The first truly epic game on the X360 was probably gears of war, which came out a year after the X360's release. And it being the X360, developers can kinda get away with starting development on Windows and easily move it over and rehauling it.
The DS went through the same thing. Yeah it's a handheld, but it did. I remember for the first whole year it was out all I heard was how it was terrible, no good games were coming out for it, how it had no chance of being successful. Then suddenly all these great games from RPGs to minigame games to puzzle games to anything started to come out and it has exploded. Everyone called Nintendo crazy for making a system like this, but it has done way better for them than I think anyone outside of Nintendo expected.
The Wii had a great launch but yeah it's games are lacking right now. I think people just haven't really found the right way to used the controllers yet and make a good standard of how to do moves. But signs of people finally getting it are coming out....look no further than a game called No More Heroes, from the guy who created the insane game Killer 7.
PSP has struggled to find an identity. Because of the power of the system and just how it's setup, companies are using it as a device that games can easily be ported to. It's really being hurt by the lack of exclusives. The new slim PSP is a little lighter and thinner, but it does have a TV-out on it which is kinda cool. And I believe the TV-out is 480p if you use component. So if you encode a movie to play on your PSP, it should look pretty good on a normal TV too. Sony really needs to work on getting exclusives to the system that makes people want to gout and buy it.
The PS3 is still very early in its life cycle and, yes, thus far has been pretty unstellar. But as I said, the games we are finally starting to get sneek peaks at are looking real good. When Sony did it's surprise showcase of the PS3 at E3 2005 they showed this INSANE video for a game called Killzone 2. People were like they are insane, could never pull it off, etc...well this year they started showing the game off with in-game graphics and holy shiznot, they actually pretty much pulled it off!! Gran Turismo 5, if you haven't seen videos of it, looks f'n INSANE. The lighting & shadows are top-notch. The in-car view is AWESOME. There are finally 16 cars on the track instead of 8. Updated AI and other things have not been integrated yet so we aren't sure about what all will be new in it. The game will be locked at 60fps while replays will be at 30fps.
I don't know who will win the war in the in. Just saying that don't judge a system by what it has early in its life. It's all up for grabs. All the systems have their strong points and weak points. In the end, the games will determine who wins and we certainly haven't gotten to the peak of this generation yet. |

Dave knows what he is talking about, although, i waited a year for the 360 to clear of issues, and still had to go through 2 and i think this 3rd one is bad.. haha, the PS3, I waited until the 100 price drop, and with 5 free Blue Ray movies, thats like getting 200 free! Thats a deal... Rainbow Six Vegas looks much better on the ps3 than the xbox.
Whatever the case, I think blue ray will own. 52 gigs on a blue ray, They dont even have HD recorders, bleh my thoughts are all scattered, since I saw RE3 already and im not going to PVD @ 1015, but i will see him tomorrow at Nocturnal! so whatever the case
BLUE RAY > HD but dont quote me.. lol |

I keep hearing that the prevailing format will be the one that the porn industry signs to. So, since Sony already said they will not sign any porn labels, HD-DVD +1
Personally, I dont think porn in HD will be a good thing... :nervous: |
