Moving to Chicago!!!!!

So I have been talking about this since after graduation but the time has finally come. After working my butt off for the last two years trying to stay afloat and looking for a position in my field I finally got it. I have just accepted an Account Executive position with a firm in Chicago and will be making the move.

I am very excited about this can’t wait to get started. Some of you cats from Chicago I have met but some of you I have not. I promise I don’t bite and look forward to meeting yeah in the coming months. If it was any city out of Detroit I would work it would have been Chicago and I am glad to finally be making my way to your city.

Couple of quick questions for some of you. I know a little bit about the city but honestly when it comes to the neiborhoods I know nothing. I will be working by the airpot in Des Plaines and will be looking for a place to live this Saturday. Are there any up and coming nice areas that I should take a look at? Are there any areas that I should stay away from? I have looked at places in the Rogers Park, Uptown area and places by the lake on the north side of the city. Is that commute in the morning going to be that bad? Is that area any good? Anyways any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

lakeview/wrigleyville are great places to live and not too far from the airport. these neighborhoods are pretty yuppie, but at the same time a lot of young people live there and i had an easy commute into the city.

i'd also suggest logan square - a lot of my techno friends live in that area. you used to never want to live west of western, but the area is getting better. you might also want to look at wicker park - younger, artsy type neighborhood.

let me know if you need help - i still have plenty of friends who would be willing to help ya.

south loop ;) Anywhere between:

State to Prairie (West to East)

8th St. to 18th (North to South)

I live here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=S+Ind...iwloc=addr&om=1

and I absolutely love it.

Holy . Now that is some of the best news I've heard in a long, long, LONG time! Dude, you're only going to be like an hour away from us!

Congratulations Mathias - I'm ing stoked you found a job and that all this ing nonsense about talking about getting together to talk about music turns into action!

w00t! :)

Watch out for bums in the south loop, though. They like to hide out even by the nicer buildings at night.

I dont know you but from what I've gathered you seem like an all around class dude. Congrats man!

Welcome to the Chitown crew! Based on all the stuff I've seen from the Detroit posts & mixes on TA, CTA gains another great, knowledgeable DJ! Hope to see ya at some events soon and congrats on the job.

I just moved to Chicago a year ago and moved to Hyde Park (way south, not near anything, closes down at about 10p every night... pretty lame) but I'm moving up north and west in about a month (Bucktown/Logan Square/Wicker Park areas). Those places are pretty fun and seem to have a younger crowd.

I have a few friends that live in Uptown and really like it. A lot of the neighborhood choices (I think) are entirely personal preference.. so maybe just scout it out and see what feels right to you when you come to visit.

So here is the update.

Thanks to everyone for there help and kind words. I am really pumped about this an cant wait to get moved in.

I ended up with a place in Rogers Park, one bedroom, two blocks away from the beach and right across from the Redline. Completely refurbished with all new appliances, hardwood floors and all utilities included.

I believe it’s in the Art District If I’m not mistaken. So hopefully that isn’t too bad of a spot, the place is really nice and when we went there the neighborhood seemed pretty good as well.

I’ll probably be moving in around the weekend of the 20th so soon after that I am sure I’ll see some of you out and about. Its party time bitches!
