Antares is a dying star. It has used up its supply of hydrogen. It is now burning helium for energy, has expanded and cooled down. Hence it appears red. Our sun will also expand once it uses up its hydrogen, gobbling up the orbits of mercury, venus, and probably also earth.

What really does blow my mind is when I go outside and I can literally feel the heat of the sun on my skin. Considering it's 93 million miles away, that always impresses me.
