What do PvD and AvB use to make tracks?
View this Thread in Original format
FromAbove
Do they use programs like Reason and Cubase?
System101
its not the program its how you use it..

get comfortable with one program, learn it inside out!
echosystm
Armin uses Logic & Ableton.

But yes, it is not the program, it is how you use it. Moreso than ever, there are very few differences between Sonar, Logic, Cubase, Ableton, etc. For example, Ableton's claim to fame was partly the warp marker stuff. Cubase (since SX3) and Sonar (audiosnap) both have this kind of thing now.

in addition what the guys said above 90% of the Big ones use Logic and AVB A&B are one of them
but don't 4get that this is the DAW while they have thousands of synthesizers and vst instruments inside this DAW so u can buy Logic but this will never make u sound like them
Khayat
...and PVD uses Ableton for live performances so I guess he uses it in the studio ofcourse with other Software DAWs , VSTs and syths

I don't want to start an argument here because I totally agree with you but I don't think you can say that 90% of well known producers use logic. A good chunk of pro studio's use pro tools, another good chunk use cubase I think the actual numbers would be a lot fairer.

That being said, with enough practice and enough ingenuity you can use any single DAW out there to make tracks like the pro's.

I'd also like to see where that 90% figure came from.

Khayat, can you just list for us, from the most recent top 250 djs list, those dj's who also produce tracks, what software they use? That way we can see for ourselves that "90% of the Big ones use Logic".

If you can't provide the list, provide a suitable explanation for the 90% figure.

(edit - it doesn't have to be the top 250. It can be the top 10 or 20, if that'll make it easier. Or how are you defining the "Big ones"?)

In response to the original question - I don't know what those two in particular use. Is there a reason you only want to know what those two guys use? It doesn't matter what other top producers use? Because fantastic sounding tunes have been made with every piece of software and hardware out there. You work out what works for you personally. Try out software demos, try out synths, work out what will work for you.

Pro tools isn't that popular for dance as far as I'm aware.... I've tried and its really hard to use for anything requiring loops. Cubase and logic are the two popular ones, but ableton and reason are close behind probably followed by sonar. As someone already said, its not the DAW, its more the VSTs and even more the person using them.

I would like to conclude by asking why this guy has not been slaughtered yet? This is a pretty daft question really and I've seen much more intelligent questions get flamed for at least 3 or 4 days :whip:

am i the only person who thinks flstudio is more widely used (even professionally) than reason?
kitphillips
Actually that was the one I forgot... I guess its probably used as much as sonar, I think reason was probably more common, but its old now, so its popularity has given way a little. But then again, so is FL, so maybe they're still equal.

I assume FromAbove hasn't been producing that long. It's a fair question if you're starting out, what do my favourite producers use? After a while producing you realise it doesn't matter what they use, it only matters what you use.

If people flame a guy who wants to learn about producing and making excellent music, then they're here for the flaming, not for the love of the music.

Yeah I agree, but a quick read through the forums would have let him know this stuff. I'm not saying his question was THAT bad, its just that I've seen more reasonable questions get flamed.
