Try lowering or raising the gain.

What I do is just skip through to the main part of the track, what I call "the beef". Using the gains I get it peaking at 0 on the level meters, you already know that the beef of the track is pretty much gonna be the loudest part.
If you do this with every track you cue up then you can't go far wrong with volume fluctuations :) |

nowadays you can actually as mp3 compression s up the peaks in tracks often. so if you have a track that is very low in volume before the mp3 compression, it can seem that it's peaking at 0dB after the compression even though it really isn't (wasn't in the original uncompressed file). annoying problem, i've found. i even made a thread about it a while ago called "mastering of individual tracks" or something like that.
but anyway, yeah use the gains to set the tracks to similar volumes. |

I didn't know that but thinkin about it I have bought the odd track that seemed to be badly mastered, sounds like it could be what you mentioned. Cheers skip. |

You can use MP3 Gain. That program will level all your songs to the same decibels.
