It seems every club I go to is playing this stuff.
And I'm not even saying it in a way where house music is better than mash up. I don't mind hip hop at a club, but when a guy is playing 900 songs and 15 seconds of each song, it's really annoying.
I know hip hop is fast cuts and only portions of the song, but if you let it play for a minute or so, there's nothing wrong with that.
Ugh...

| well, the dj at TIL on wednesday plays a mashup of hip hop and rock and it actually sounds good. and he is one of the few djs in toronto that can scratch properly too. i was quite impressed with his skills after watching him play for a while. |

I hear you... mash up if done by someone who can't do it properly sounds like crap. But I cannot agree with you. If the DJ actually knows how to pitch match and bring the tracks in seamlessly mash up is so fun. In fact you have to respect a DJ who was the skills to accomplish good mash up.
This year I have been hooked on Mark Ronson's Essential Mix. And if you haven't heard it yet have a listen and your opinion on mash ups may change. |

some mashups are very well done and are fun...but, in general, I'm not a big fan. I more respect a quality new production or remix vs. just putting two tracks together or dropping a set that's just a bunch of clips from tracks.
I was at the Drake not too long ago and the DJ downstairs was playing a min. or so of a bunch of completely unrelated tracks (from d'n'b to hip hop to alt rock, etc). It wasn't *bad* (probably because I was quite drunk) for the hour or so we were there, but not something I'd care to hear for an entire night.
a set made up of 15 second clips though? no thanks. |

| Once I went to TIL on Saturday...and there was this DJ with dreadlocks (I am sure chinamon will know who that is), but anyways...He was playing mashups for at least an hour. I thought I was gonna puke. It was such a horrible night and sooooooooooo boring...And, some songs were good, but when I tried to dance to them, they would immediately turn into some other ty song... |

when done properly mash-ups are awesome. but unfortunately, for every 10,000 mash-ups done, only about 10 are actually any good.
Team Canada DJs (http://www.myspace.com/teamcanadadjs) have a lot of amazing mash-ups. I've heard them live before, and they are really good... very skillful. |

tru say ... it seems like Shuffle Parties got a little too popular for their own good and it's as if every club in the city is throwing it down now
hard to come up with a creative concept these days before the minions start ripping it apart

Its true, most mash-up's arn't done very well most of the time, and so they either sound horrible, or not very original. But..when the crowd is drunk they figure who really knows the differnce or gives a f%7ck!
