What new features does it have, other than proper mousewheel zoom? :p
Can you do real sidechaining now, without having to duplicate the source track? |

Fine, I'll answer myself...
| quote: | * The enhanced audio engine improves fidelity with 64-bit mix summing, POW-r dithering, optimized sample-rate conversion and other advances.
* The new compressor device integrates three compression models, one of which is based on a feedback design commonly found in the most praised vintage compressors.
* Fully integrated side-chaining capability is available for the new Compressor as well as Gate and Auto Filter.
* High-Quality modes have been added to Operator, Dynamic Tube and Saturator for anti-aliased processing, reducing typical "digital" artifacts.
* EQ Eight has an improved user interface and a 64 bit mode for increased accuracy.
* The new Spectrum analyzer provides visual feedback for any audio signals within Live (and it looks really cool!).
* The MIDI engine has been reworked to minimize timing error (jitter) of recorded MIDI.
* Hardware integration has been streamlined—hardware synthesizers and effects can now be inserted into device chains just like software plug-ins.
* New memory management technology allows users of large sample libraries, such as Ableton's new sampled instruments or third-party libraries imported via Sampler, to run an impressive number of instruments at the same time. This happens automatically, with no setup changes required.
* New Audio and MIDI fact sheets explain exactly how signals are (or are not) being modified when using specific features in Live and provide tips for achieving the highest quality results.

Not really impressed. What I really wanted is a variable number of pads in Impulse. I mean... wtf can anyone do with 8 pads? It's madness. Also, theres no indication if midi can take multiple channels yet. 64-bit pointless float is well... a nothing feature. The dithering is good though.
"Fully intergrated sidechaining FOR THE NEW COMPRESSOR" eh? |

both, i use ableton to produce and i use ableton when i dj/live act.
@echo: no word if Midi Learn is programmable yet. it's really annoying not being able to type in values
never been a big impulse user, so no big deal there for me
the god damn fact that we can't get past 128 CC values is just F)i#$Q retarded |

Ok I feel retarded for never realising this before...
You can just use a send for the sidechaining, so you don't cut off one signal completely. :p
(I'm new to Abletronz) |

| Drum racks with rex support. This is what I've been waiting for. |

AUTOMATION LANES!!! :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:
Finally! :D :D :D :D
EDIT - And the drumrack is wicked. Really needed those two things. |

You can also create an audio channel with input set to (Kick or whatever) and output to the SC Comp. Does the same thing basically, but you can put the channel right next to what it's affecting. Also you can set the input source to pre-effect, pre-mix, or post-mix, if that makes a difference for what you're doing.
Topic:
New compressor looks rad. It's nice that the source is easily selectable.
Automation lanes... woot!
External Instrument 'blocks' are really clever, imo.
HOly crap.. .watch the drum rack video, if you haven't. The drum rack has a mixer that folds out. Then add effects to individual slices. Crazy.
My biggest want/need is the ability to group and then fold/shrink tracks. I don't see any sign of that here. Bummer. |
