i lost my harddrive twoce in 2 months.. i know that is the worst! Specially when you have homework and papers and on it.. oh yeah, and all of yor mp3sa....

ive kind of been wondering the same thing, but he always seems to spell my name "southis" so i smile and nod :p most people seem to have the misconception that my name is pronounced "so this" so they spell it in odd ways. (in reality its the egyptian name for the star Sirius, another name for Isis, egyptian goddess.. pronounced sewthEEs... ha theres a useless fact for the day)
as far as kazaa, isnt there some statistic that like 40% of files on there and morpheus are infected? if you use a virus scanner you could always set it to scan every file you download.. makes it safer. or just reformat.. i do it sometimes. often a good thing to do is when you get your hard drive, partition it, so theres one small chunk you can put your system files on, and then the rest is for stuff you download, games, etc.
this way, if you get a nasty virus or something happens with windows, all you have to do is format that part of your hard drive, and you dont have to burn or lose alllll that other stuff youve collected.

you do realize, it could have been someone gettin into your box and screwing things up also.. i dont think youve answered yet if you have a firewall.. but i use DC, and im an op in an anime channel.. and you have no idea how many of them are little bitches and try to hack me. its fun banning someones ip and then seeing it all over my firewall, ill tell you.
so again, if you dont have a virus scanner or a firewall, let this be a lesson. GET THEM! :p |

well, to each his own, no point in having a flame war, but i love my metal. some of it is even kinda.. electronica, you might even like it if you like trance and beats. check out Nine Inch Nails, Further Down The Spiral" for some cool remixes.
but, i like much harder stuff too, pantera, system of a down, white zombie etc..
anyway, i digress..

maybe you need to defrag your harddrive... or it could be that your computer is slow in the first place (or ram as you suggested).. but i think its kind of necessary, unless you download basically nothing

what firewall are you talking about?
im not talking about a built-in firewall.. im talking about a good one.
i have norton personal firewall, and it scans your hard drive first of all, lists all programs that can access the internet (including messengers, anything).. and lets you set permissions on each of these things (full access, ask for access, or no access). if it doesnt find the program by its automatic scan you can personally add things in (i did this with mIRC).
i have had zero problems with being able to connect to anything (and i use FTPs, ICQ, and it doesnt affect your passive mode at all, at least not in DC). the ONLY thing that i have had problems with is downloading songs off djmixes2k, i have to turn off my firewall to download the files because of their auto leech thing they have on there for some reason. other than that, nothing else. everything works just like it did before. output looks like this:

that screenshot was my record.. specific person from my hubs was attempting to hack me and a few other ops.. same ip all over all of ours. note that i have mirc, msn/aim messengers, and direct connect on workin fine
so i think you should check out some firewalls before thinking they all will do that. mine has zero of those problems.. my built in windows one did, but not a good one. if you want i can send you a zip file that contains the firewall i use. |

um Athlon XP1700, 512MB ram (PC2100, CAS 2), via KT266a, 2 ibm 60GXP in Raid0.. i really do not think it is my PC

any firewal.. i hate having proggries running the in the background. it is nasty.. they suck up resources, make playing CS a pain etc... then again, i am expecting different stuff from my pc than most other people. |

i do have a firewall, built into our router..
it still sucks..
that is why our network is set up, so that i can go around the firewall/ router, since i have a static ip...
my server is running behind the firewall and trust me, i wish i could go around it..
yes i have had a virus before.. once.. yes i got rid of it. end of story...
you know that a firewall will always add lag to your connection, right? |
