It's not mono, it's strep throat. You need antibiotics. Streptococci is a resident flora of the skin and mucous membranes, but in an individual with a weakened immune system, these normally harmless bacteria become opportunistic. So yeah, you need antibiotics ASAP. |
Lol that sounds great, especially since i have Gilberts Syndrome...if i get ill it s with my bile and i tend to get Jaundice...oh well...

Strep is a resident flora of the respiratory tract, not the skin and mucous membranes...I mixed it up with staph. Just thought I'd make that correction. :p
Anyway, you should also know that left untreated, these kind of infections can cause serious complications in other parts of the body of it goes systemic. Get it looked after as soon as you can! |

How does Listerine hamper the healing?? Its an antiseptic mouthwash.

Seriously, you should switch over to gargling with warm salt water. It will feel sooooooooo much better I promise. If you are using the Listerine because you feel that it is helping to kill bacteria you should stop. Although it may kill some of the bacteria in your throat it is probably doing more harm than good as you should avoid irritating your throat. A salt solution would help kill some of the bacteria too (Even though, killing the bacteria that way is not an effective means to combat the infection) and at least will provide much more comfort than the Listerine. |

He's right. Salt water is a much more gentle solution to the problem. Remember what I said about resident flora? Well they have a function...and that's to protect the structures they live on and fight other organisms. So while you may be killing off the opportunistic ones, you're also killing the ones that have a job to do.

I've had my throat pretty ed up for a couple days too, however I don't know what to do with it.. this started with an allergic reaction a couple days ago (i'm allergic to dust), which made me feel a weird pain that goes from my ears to my throat. it doesn't really feel like tonsilitis or pharyngitis which i used to have fairly regularly, but i'm having a little bit of an hard time eating, and specially talking.
it doesn't seem to be getting worse, and i am taking medicine for my allergy.. so i don't know if i should ignore this and hope it heals, or go see a doctor and possibly waste his time |
