No, the point is that if you simply decide to put up with being ed off about life all the time, you can expect just that: to be ed off with life, all the time.

It isn't this magical mantra about this saccharine kind of happy life where you're oblivious to/in denial of what's going on around you, it's about trying, even when you're feeling your tiest, to figure out what it logically is that you have to do to make yourself happy again. In many cases, it's probably going to be very difficult, but if you don't decide you want to deal with your issues, they aren't likely going to work themselves out, so it follows that you would be unhappy.

Edit: And this isn't about "brushing off" anything - it's about dealing with the hardest times in your life. This isn't meant to be a recipe for "instant happiness."

I took the piece as basically a very long-winded way of saying, "always look on the bright side of life." has happened, but what can you do to make it better? What can you learn from this bad experience? How can you avoid it next time?

And seeing as how any time is a good time for a Monty Python reference...

if anyone is curious, the passage i posted is an excerpt from this book.

i didn't expect a thread with 100% serious replies (i'm fully aware that this is in fact the COR), but i'm glad some of you understood/enjoyed it.

Yeah, I bet she deserved it anyways.

it's one of those reads that beats the same, simple point over and over again, extending something that can be summed up with a sentence into a multi-page statement. The level of oversimplification and generalization in this piece is pretty amusing too :p

Apparently there are loads of people the world over who need that though, that much is apparent by the shear number of people still listening to "trance."

i've definitely learned to look at the bright side of things as much as possible, and it certainly helps out. But what I disagreed with was the article's blunt claim to having discovered the ultimate key to happiness. Maybe i'm taking it too literally or reading too into it, but hey - the thing only stated about 5 different times that "if you REALLY want to be happy, you'll be happy!"
