man it was BAD! It was done by mistake. Some douche bag FLTA Gerry Cueto called up a TA I'm friends with and was like "oh i lost mel's number blah blah blah" & gave it to him. He never had my number!! [he has the same manager as GA and told on me like we're in 5th grade. boo hoo]

I came online to bitch about his Manager calling me. I thought it was a joke at first. But he was seriously saying he was going to sue me for defamation of character.

it was this big BIG thing back and forth. Lots of drama in FLTA. But it's all cool. I did get to talk to GA right before I moved up here. :stongue:

This happened like not even a year ago.

Can he even do that? What ever happened to freedom of speech?

yeah.

This went back and forth ALOT.

From phone calls to emails to IM's. That was my arguement the whole time.

Nothing ever happened. Obviously.

Shouldn't be a shock to anyone....anyone ever heard of payola....back in the 60's Radio DJ's getting paid to play particular albums by artists on the radio to build up a fan base, same thing.

agreed. Christopher Lawrence has been around forever and is one of the nicest, most down to Earth guys in the business. I highly doubt he cooked up the plan to cheat his way into DJ mag's top 10.

Alot of people may personally know these DJ's and I'm sure they are all nice people. Why is it such a shock effect for a DJ to be a nice person?? Most are. Everyone has met their fair share and I'm sure the good dj's outweigh the bad... BY ALOT!

We all know Chris L is one of America's top ranked DJ's [before all this] but maybe he was being a little greedy?? Dj Dan did pop out of the wood work last years list. ;)

Markus said it BEST! [taken from the MD thread]

There are a lot of issues around the rankings. DJ Mag is the authority, thedjlist.com. What do you think of the industry ranking the actual artists so much?

Let me be perfectly clear about this. I think it's a good thing because it gives everybody a voice. It doesn't matter if you are in a little town in the middle of Nebraska or if you're an experienced clubber in London or New York City. Your opinions matter. Back in the day DJs would just go and do a crappy job in some city where they just didn't want to be at, or they just weren't feeling it and they would be, "Whatever. I wish this night would end." Now you have to be on top of your game. Every time you go somewhere, you can't put on a lame show. It doesn't matter if you're in London, New York, at a festival. You have to bring you're A-game. So in that sense the polls have kind of given everybody a voice and made the DJs take it seriously. But I think what has happened lately is the spirit of the polls is being manipulated with a lot of people cheating and I think that's where it's going wrong. Sure, everybody has their parents vote, or tells their buddies to vote, or everybody votes from their Hotmail account and then from their normal email account, everybody does that. That's no big deal. But when you hire a company to pad the votes for you and you vote thousands of times, then what you're doing is screwing the fans. That's not legit and I don't know how some of these people can look at themselves in the mirror. I don't know how some of these people are up on stage and not feel that they are there for the wrong reasons. They are there because they cheated. For me it's about integrity and about making the fans happy, and making a difference in people's lives. I was put on this planet to make people happy through my music. I can't do anything else. To me it's a good thing but shame on the people who have cheated, and I really hope that the people who are doing these polls really put forth the extra effort to make sure that they are safeguarding against these things. Like I said, shame on the DJs that cheat and how can you stand on stage and look out at the audience and feel confident.

Without name dropping he hinted at that fact. So if they do know.. BOO to them and Markus is right.

We will never know the real truth.

edit- in the end... nothing will change. The percentage of people who will know about this scam vs the rest of the part goers is a TEENY TINY Group.

to be quite honest i think the whole poll is a bunch of crock . i understand DJs want the title of #1 but reguardless everyones going to have their own opinion on who they believe is the #1 DJ. this whole situation makes me very happy i didnt vote this year. & if i got another bulletin on myspace from another DJ posting to vote for them i was going to kill someone. you only need to send out one!!!!!!:whip: :whip: my whole bulletin wall was from every DJ on my friends posting about VOTE FOR MEE!!! VOTE FOR MEE!! ill vote for whoever i want damnit & you sending out 100000000 & 1 bulletins isnt going to help you!! funny how i dont recally armin or pvd sendin out any bulletins about it & if they did they didnt send out massive amounts of them bc they dont need to beg for peoples votes!!!!!

i feel there are 2 different reasons why a DJ care he/she makes the DJ Mag's top 100 list.

first, and IMO of course , the only reason should be is because by being mentioned in that list, it will help you to reach out to more people that actually care for this music, be able to express your art to more ppl, using it as a tool for your craft.

the second reason i find is when you let the whole thing get to your head. getting stuck in the fame of it all because you enjoy the recognition. thing is i think that DJs subconsciously combine a little bit of both reasons. it all comes down to the music imo. if you care for it enuff i think it will overide the hype, fluff, hollow blunts whatevers.. lol

what about the money? this is an occupation to people on the list. being on the list obviously gives you fame which ultimately fills in clubs and lines the pockets of the DJ.

Piet
for some dj's getting the #1 spot means their fan base will change - for the worse

That is the real reason they care. Higher ranking = more money for gigs.
