I for one welcome migrants. Without them we wouldn't have Thai, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Mexican |
don't know about Mexicans as I don't know any but the rest of em... (generalising here based on my interactions with people from those cultures) sure work a lot harder than other members of the population. Quite enterprising too I might add, even if they don't all speak English. |

Me of course.
Seriously though, not one person agrees with me that immigrants should learn to speak the language when they move? That's all. I didn't even say they should become employed or do anything else...just learn the dialect.
I'd expect that from myself if I moved to a foreign country.
p.s why is everyone bringing immigrant work ethic into this? It's a non-issue. :wtf: |

The above applies to any country.
Have can a person feel any loyalty or connection to the place they are living if they don't speak the language, and hence can't interact or form bonds with "real" citizens who have been living there all their lives? They may as well be back living in whatever country they came from, minus the war or whatever other reason(s) they left. | but i dont think they want to become austrailians. they just live there and might be there for work. |

Bah, regardless of policies, how can anyone like that little turd Kevin Rudd?
John Howard may be a feeble old man, but Rudd is the epitome of the nerd...the guy you used to bash at school. Glasses, ing gay hair, and the thing that pisses me off the most - that little self righteous smirk he constantly has, like he knows something we don't. |
he knows his gonna it in, in the election
his got my vote.... :D |

I agree with most of what beat blog has said. It seems that there are a huge amount of immigrants that make no effort to learn to speak English at all or try and fit in with the rest of the community. Instead, we're left with heaps of communities - Asian, Greek, Jewish etc. that keep to themselves and are basically just satellite states of their own home country and do very little to become an 'Australian'.
like the Cronulla riots; suspicion of every Muslim etc. would not happen if these people branched outside of their own ghetto and attempted to adapt to the wider community. In fact, the current trend needs to be curbed while it still can. if not, tensions will only increase and these communities will only become more entenched. |
