Silicon Valley electronic music enthusiasts / DJs wanted

So a while ago a few people were frustrated at the apparent lack of any kind of event or venue for electronic music in the South Bay. Sure we all know we can drive up to SF for some great events. But that drive back at 4am is never pleasant and makes it hard to go out for small events every week as opposed to that big headliner DJ once a month.

So we have been building a South Bay Electronic Music group based on meetup.com. Currently we have a monthly event at a venue in Mountain View every first Friday of the month. We are looking to put on our 3rd one next month (November). You can visit and, if interested, join our meetup group here:

http://electronicmusic.meetup.com/132/

Our goal is simple. Start small, grow a great community of friends and fellow music lovers here in the South Bay. I think if you live in the South Bay you know that we sorely need something like this. Take a look at our event history and if this interests you feel free to join and you will be notified about upcoming events.

I know there are a lot of talented DJs on TA, and I know that there aren't a lot of opportunities to spin out in the South Bay. We're looking for more DJs for our future events, but in order to not waste anyone's time I want to make a few points clear:

  1. We're looking for someone who's goals are in line with our own (grow a community in the South Bay that has a good time going out and listening to good music) and not the simple, self serving, self promotion of you as a DJ
  2. Must be 21 years of age or older (our venue ATM is 21+)
  3. Must have a passion for some kind of EDM. Right now our event spins a lot of house, trance and progressive. But that's just because of the DJs spinning. Our group struggles to be an inclusive one whether it be house remixes of pop singers or drum & bass.
  4. Must be understanding that we are building something from the ground up. You aren't showing up with your record bag a minute before your allocated set time by yourself to stand up in front of a crowd of 1000 people. So far each event we have thrown has generated just enough money to cover the venue for the next month, so we are succeeding and growing but only through the effort of dedicated people.
  5. Must live in the South Bay, currently our venue is in Mountain View which is rather North and we have an interest in moving more towards San Jose. But if you live in SF, you have tons of opportunity there, and we'd like to get South Bay people involved.
  6. I think if you've read the above and understood it, you will realize that we do not, nor are we ever looking to, pay anyone for DJing.

If the above sounds right to you, then shoot me an email or post a reply in this thread. Introduce yourself, tell me what you like about DJing and what your experience has been like. Send me a link or some way I can listen to your mixing and what the details of that mix are (liveset recording, demo CD recorded after 3 tries), what kind of stuff you use to DJ (CDJs, Ableton, Vinyl, etc) and whatever else you think is relevant. Post in this thread or send the above to me at:

the cardiff in downtown campbell is pretty much the only good club in south bay. theres always a good crowd with decent to good house music. this is a cool idea though, will try to check it out one of these days :) also see: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=440222 :happy2:
