i already did that at my last school and it took me 8 months to pay back $3500. im done with loans. |
3500? Thats it? Try having 50k+
Student loans start out at a low rate (ie a hundred or so a month) when you first get out of school. The longer the time passes, the more the monthly payments are. That should coincide with more money as you work your way up.
You obviously havent looked at the right loans. |

yea i have. its just i dont feel like being in debt when i finish school. whats the point of working a ing stressful ass job when all im doing is paying back my loans?
if i would of only made the lowest monthly payments on my loans it would have taken me 8 years to pay them back! and the total cost would of been 9k. now, why would i do that? i could either pay back ~3700 in 8 months or 9000 in 8 years? why am i going to give the loan company so much more of my hard earned money? |

You said you're afraid you wouldn't be prepared for a job when you got out of FIU.
Do you think you'd be able to make another $1200 per year in salary with a degree from another university, with the proper preparation? |

it isnt the money im worried about, as long as i have enough to provide for my wife and kids (future, not present) i dont care. i dont need 100k a year. gimme 40-50k and ill be more than happy.
what i would get from another university is the knowledge im not being taught at this of a school. unfortunately its not an option to move unless something drastic happens like winning 100k in the lottery. which of course im not counting on.
at this university im just worried that im going to graduate and a company is going to say no to me just cuz of the name of the school on my degree. or im going to get hired and then fired because my school didnt care enough about me to teach me things i would need to know.
i know writing the letter of complaint really isnt going to change much. but i just want to do it to show the department that there are students there that arent going to sit down and take from them. even if in the end we still are because thats who we're giving our money too. :( i just wanna do SOMETHING rather than just take it up the ass you know? |

if you're not worried about the money, why are you refusing to take student loans, when you're sure it'll leave you more prepared for the rest of your life? |

theres other things involved in me not being able to move. money plays a part but isnt the main reason i cant move. i just dont really want to say why.
lets just focus on my idea. does anyone think a formal letter of complaint will do anything? |

well, there's no way for me to know that. You just said 'I can't afford it,' which you can.
writing them a letter while you're still there is like arguing with an umpire in baseball. it might make you feel better, but you're screwing yourself for the rest of the game, even if he's wrong. |

money was a cover. no reason for me to blurt out all my personal life on the internet like some do.
you're probably right though. but im just not the type of person to sit back and not saying anything. even if it does me a little. im very emotional and always voice my opinion. which is why i was wondering what the best way of going about this is. obviously im not going to storm into the deans office waving my middle finger saying this school. i wanted to do it in a respectful way and the proper way. i just want a voice for the many dissatisfied students at this universities engineering program. i mean if no one ever complains, how are they even supposed to know they suck at life (if the probation and firing of their students isnt enough of a clue). |

easy--money.
like I said, nothing's going to change enough by the time you graduate to impact your life, so there's no point in jeopardizing your own future. Once you graduate & get your references, you don't have to rely on them anymore. Until then, you don't have much of a choice.
If none of their alums make contributions (whether by choice or inability), they'll get the message loud & clear. That's also the time to start writing letters. Universities don't pay nearly as much attention to students with no leverage & questionable maturity as they do to alums debating whether or not to pull out their considerably more flexible wallets & who have established themselves as influential adults. |

very true. but there are some things they could change. even if they wont. they COULD.
