M-audio Torq

Thoughts?
I have it.. I love it, there are some iffy bits like the effects but I have a djm 400 that takes care of that.
The ability to use ableton helps out a lot and for the price tag, I think its a very reliable piece of audio gear. |

Which Torq do you have? Conectiv? If so, you can't rewire into ableton with external control enabled.

I've owned Torq since last September, and it is great, especially for the price tag. Keep in mind, I was playing in my bedroom back then.
In the past 4 months or so, I've started playing out, and now hold a residency at 3 clubs. Torq just doesn't cut it. When it gets loud, audio quality sucks. And having the program crash with a packed dancefloor is not a good thing either.
So, I bought Serato today. Excited to see how it works for me this weekend.
Don't get me wrong, Torq is a great program, but using it in a real live setting just isn't a good thing. |

I own both Torq and Serato. I think Torq is fine for most people, but Serato has a proven track record and is just great at what it does. It might not have as many bells and whistles, but as a DVS it's very, very solid.

| i think serato has had more time to mature and develop as a very reliable platform for use at gigs. personally i believe that given some time, torq may be at that same level. its still a relatively new product. hopefully their 1.5 release will make massive improvements |

What I actually like about Serato is they don't try to be different things. Torq has DVS support, but also tries to be an effects unit, sampler, mixer, rewire host, vst host, Xponent host, etc.
It does work pretty well though. I just find Serato is so clean and simple. |

An M-Audio product will never be at the level of a Rane product.

Just an FYI... Serato (software) is a separate company in Europe.
Rane is simply the manufacturer of the interface and distributer of the software.

Ok let me rephrase-
Any product on the market today with M-Audio branding will never be as good as an equivalent product with Rane branding.
That's how it should stay for a while unless M-Audio comes out with a professional level of products anytime soon or Rane all of the sudden decides to make a crappy product.
For the most part these two companies don't really release the same sort of products but overall I've had much better experiences with the Rane products I've used than the M-Audio products which always seem to suck for one reason or another. |

I wasn't arguing with you, just clarifying that Rane doesn't deserve all the credit for such a great product :)
