Student recruits unfit for service, say former border guards
Facebook postings show drinking and partying while officers in uniform
Canada Border Services Agency officers who work in B.C. are being accused of posting inappropriate and offensive material, some of it directly related to their jobs, on the internet.

Hughes and his former colleague, Levan Turner, both in their 40s, worked summers at the border until the government decided not to hire them permanently.
They claim they were passed over in favour of younger, cheaper, student recruits. Hughes claimed he has been tracking website postings by several of those recruits ever since.

Lame. Because it's really the fault of the younger student reqruits that you didn't get hired right?

They partied and bonded a bit. No big deal.
If they start lynching people in their uniforms, then start talking. |

Generally these type of jobs require people to act professionally when in uniform.
It'd be just like seeing cops get trashed and doing blue angels while in uniform |

yes its a big deal, when they're in uniform.
Don't forget these people are the first contact with travellers when visiting Canada.
This was news about 2 weeks ago, what took you so long to post it? |

my friends and i took a road-trip to boston 2 years ago, and i couldn't beleive how LAX the customs was coming back into canada... there were 7 of us in a van, and we pull up to the customs booth. the girl in the booth is reading a textbook the whole time...
customs: where have you been?
driver: boston
customs: how long have you been gone?
driver: 5 days
customs: where do you live?
driver: mississauga
customs: anything to declare?
driver: no
customs: ok, go ahead
the whole process of getting back into the country took 10 seconds... she didn't check our passports or really look at us at all... we could've had a van full of guns and drugs or something.... it's good that we didn't get hassled at the border, but kind of scary how porous it is. |
