My cousin gave me a DVD of Dave Chapelle doing stand-up in San Francisco and said to me "this is so funny, you will love it". I've never seen Chapelle before, bar about five minutes of his show, but I approached with a completely open mind.
Last time I checked, dropping the words "", "", "motherfucker" and "nigger" every ten words is not funny, and neither is comparing the obvious, every day differences between what black people and white people say, do, think, wear and eat.
I watched for half an hour and may have smirked once, but definitely not a single laugh for the entire time. On the other hand, the fat Americans in the audience were braying like a pack of retarded donkeys the whole time, and even getting to their feet applauding at various points.
Why is this guy so popular? I literally cannot understand, especially since I'm fairly easily amused in general.

Seriously, what the . I haven't seen a Chapelle standup that I haven't laughed at to this day. He's not as clever with his standup as Chris Rock, but he's funny nevertheless. Then again, I haven't watched a standup without hitting a couple of blunts first. In Ny it was the Haze and Dro, and now that I live in Detroit, it's all about the Kush.

nah, chappelle's stand-up isn't great at all. If I hadn't seen the show first, idk if I would have laughed, but either way, he does rely way too much on swearing, drug use, & random violence. I doubt you will now, but I'd say watch the show, instead. Far better.

Dave Chapelle's peak popularity was a few years ago when it was "new". His standup isnt as funny as his show was. Some of best stand up Ive seen is. Insomniac Uncensored. Ive shown it to a bunch of friends and we were laughing to tears. I still laugh even though Ive seen it a bunch.
