| Um bar-rio isnt a bad venue compared to the mbar or to mantra/ice or to other places in Houston. Actually a good place with the visuals and sound. Not the best but in my clubbing years I have seen a hella lot worse venues. |

I can't stand that place. It looks like a decorated hotel lobby (in the La Quinta style), half of the "decorations" are actually beer advertising, a significant portion of the lighting comes from an annoying sign in front of the DJ table (on a raised stage of course, don't want to forget who's in charge of the music after all) that spells out Bar Rio's name, the sound system is BAD, it sounds thin and the bass doesn't have any force to it.
The point is, Bar Rio is the place where pretty much every big event is being held right now. It's THE big club for the city right now, and it sets the standard pretty low. It also sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of blatant commercialism, so even if you overlook some of the basic shortcomings of the place it throws the atmosphere off and turns it into just another place to spend your money.
At least the M-Bar has a sound system that can fill the entire club and sound clear, and at least it has enough class to look like a club/lounge and not a heineken ad. Only complaint there is putting the DJ booth 20ft in the air so they can promote their VIP lounge or whatever bs. Face it, I'd rather see Sasha at Rich's, or M-Bar or even Clarks & Deans. They're smaller, and they'd be packed, but it would rock.
Honestly, it's Oakenfold, the venue is a trivial issue to the quality of the gig compared to the suckage Oakey will bring. |

Bar Rio = Barrio
"In the United States, barrios refer to lower-class neighborhoods with largely Spanish-speaking residents, basically the Latino equivalent of a "ghetto". The word often implies that the poverty level is high in such a neighborhood..."
take from wiki, seems accurate to me.
what else did you expect;) |
