I take your exceedingly long delay to respond to mean you don't know what it is.

quick ?

how necessary is car in NYC?

I always thought that NYC was more like tokyo,
where it's better just to use the subways/trains.

You better believe it. It's been said that 50-99% of homeless people are homicidal, or at least disgruntled.

well, since "it's been said," that changes everything...

the presence of an aunt is not an indicator of... betterness!

not an indicator of "betterness" but certainly a cromulent measure of awesomicity.

I got rid of my car in a hurry after one month of living here. HUGE INconvenience to have one (when living in manhattan, that is.....boroughs are slightly different but if you live near a subway, same story........). Plus its WAY cheaper to buy a $76 monthly car than to pay for car payments, insurance, gas, repairs, etc......

My car got totalled shortly after I moved here and I never bothered getting another car. If you live in the city it's nothing but a pain in the ass....tickets, street cleaning, and people just don't respect other peoples property in NYC. I would highly recommend not bringing your car if you plan on living in the city.....but if you live any place else it's a nice thing to have as long as there is adequate parking in your neighborhood (good luck with that though.)

cars are just a huge pain in the ass for all of manhattan, and parts of brooklyn and the bronx.
