I take your exceedingly long delay to respond to mean you don't know what it is. |

how necessary is car in NYC?
I always thought that NYC was more like tokyo,
where it's better just to use the subways/trains.

You better believe it. It's been said that 50-99% of homeless people are homicidal, or at least disgruntled. |
well, since "it's been said," that changes everything...

the presence of an aunt is not an indicator of... betterness! |
not an indicator of "betterness" but certainly a cromulent measure of awesomicity. |

I got rid of my car in a hurry after one month of living here. HUGE INconvenience to have one (when living in manhattan, that is.....boroughs are slightly different but if you live near a subway, same story........). Plus its WAY cheaper to buy a $76 monthly car than to pay for car payments, insurance, gas, repairs, etc...... |

| My car got totalled shortly after I moved here and I never bothered getting another car. If you live in the city it's nothing but a pain in the ass....tickets, street cleaning, and people just don't respect other peoples property in NYC. I would highly recommend not bringing your car if you plan on living in the city.....but if you live any place else it's a nice thing to have as long as there is adequate parking in your neighborhood (good luck with that though.) |

cars are just a huge pain in the ass for all of manhattan, and parts of brooklyn and the bronx. |
