hey there Swamp, the only thing im missing right now (not missing the chicks no more:))= a chatbox kinda thing, where all the TAs can come together & chat with each other (would take some preasure of the forums as well i think)
i think most ppl would like that idea 2, dunno how u feel about it, or if u got the time or smth, but heres a link to a site where u can get a free chatroom at a very good & FAST server: www.spinchat.com

Swamper, can you run Java applications on some machine which is connected to the internet? (this can be practically any machine). I have created a kickass chat system which will be available commercially later this year. It's a pure Java solution which does NOT require a Java applet on the clientside but it renders the UI etc in pure HTML which makes it very lightweight and compatible. The system has all the imaginable features + I have successfully tested it with 1000 simultaneous robot connections so it should offer pretty good scalability as well :D Anyway, since it's still in alpha (= some features will be added, there can be some bugs), I could give it to you for a test drive for free. This would also help me to hunt down bugs and get some feedback on the UI.
What do you think?
Requirements:
JRE/JDK 1.2.2 or later (= runs on Unix, Linux, Windows, etc)
128Mb RAM preferred (although the largest runtime chunk was only 22Mb with 1000 users)
P2 266MHz or faster (the max CPU load I got was 9% on my dual P3/450 with HEAVY user load)
it does _NOT_ require any http server, cgi, perl, php, asp or any other components. Truly standalone. |
