Under 19 DJing in clubs in BC?
View this Thread in Original format

Ok so im just wondering what the rules are about this (if there are any lol). Obviously im under 19 (otherwise i wouldn't be asking, would i) im 17 but i would love to start trying to get some gigs at clubs and other events (getting kinda bored with what im doing now lol). I know that in other places under 19/21 have djed at clubs and crap but what are the rules about it in BC (specifically Vancouver)?

Thanks for the help
Chris

Knowing the club's owner usually helps.

Oh sorry..thought you meant trying to get into clubs when you're under 19...not a DJ trying to play at clubs..sorry.

Like what the other guy said.....I only knew one person that was under 19 and got gigs at a club....basically he knew some guys within management....that's how it usually works.

I'm pretty sure there's strict rules against it, but it's all hush hush....let it be.

I only know two djs who djed under age.

I wont post the clubs on this board, but obviously one of them was Jimmy Vallance.

Chris:

In regards to the earlier comment, Its terrible advice. I'm not from BC but if another underage DJ can do it so can you. If you really want to DJ, and your 100% sure that your ready for the clubs and people will enjoy your music then it doesn't matter how old you are.

Yes you will start playing the worst times and at the worst venues in your city, but so would anyone that hasn't made a name for themselves. If you are amazing at your home or at parties then find management, work for cheap or even for free, and do what you have to do to get gigs.

As you mature your music and DJ skills will too. Good Luck and go after your dreams.

i've noticed that a few kids (probably 16/17'ish?) open up for twisted & solid raves around here. & i always highly enjoy their sets! :)

me thinks that it has to do w/ connections as well. just like w/ everything else in life, networking is key.

makes you think I will spend my money on you???? :p

This is very true.

For me this doesn't work out because those kids that open up for twisted and solid play trance. I play psytrance :(

All well, Organix here I come!

Raves are all ages so that is slightly different. In terms of playing for a club whilst underaged, the club would have to make some exceptions because in terms of licensing, you really aren't allowed to be on the premise as it's 19+ for everyone.

that is a very good point, my friend. & i meant to include that point in my post, but oops. =P

but yea... i've only seen these youngins open @ raves; never ever @ a club night. & they never seem to close, either. but i'm pretty sure this is so, 'cause it's busier @ closing than @ opening. i've always been there @ the very start & only once @ the very end, & it's the truth.
