When you want to record a sound (humorous)

I love my new headphones. They are AKG K-240s.

A pic for the press:

I was listening to an electro-house tune while I was doing some homework. I got bored. I started plucking the plastic bands that you see half-circling over the top of the headphones. I started plucking them to the rythm. I noticed that I just created a really phat, but dirty bassline with more low-end cutoff when I pluck the frontal band. If you pluck them too hard, you get some distortion from the plastic rattling that is undesireable, so don't go off the deep-end.

I turned off the house tune and realized that it would be impossible to create a microphone setup that would mimic my head to accept such a tone. Bummer...

...
This kinda reminds me of the time when I was doing calculus, and dropped the overly-thick text book on the floor when I was falling asleep. It fell just right that it made the perfect hard-clap sound. I recreated it by dropping it at the same angle to which it fell. The pages slap against each other in perfect unison; creating a sweet hard-clap -- though some of the low end should be discarded after recording. I have no microphone... bummer...

...
Who knows, maybe a can of beans could be my next imaginary electro-progressive hit...
echosystm
um... ok

thats pretty cool, although part of me wants to respond in the same fashion as echosystm

They're in the mail!! Thanks for the recommendations guys, can't wait to get my pair

Yea have you guys ever seen that youtube where deadfaeg's friend sends him a sample of something real avant-garde? It was one of those door stopper things... you know, those springy cones you'd hit as a kid to piss off your parents? Pretty cool idea and I'm gonna pounce it first :D

edit: someone needs to make a AKG 240 vst plugin.

Hey, don't laugh... that door spring should be sampled as a pitch-bend bass for hardstyle.

As for the headphones. Remember there are four parameters to the pluck instrument that comes with them:

1. placement on the head (Various angles on the head warp the lp filter in a strange notch curve.).
2. Velocity of pluck (you can really snag it with a finger to get a very dirty bass where the plastic rumbles apart, or you can lightly thunk it to get a warmer sound).
3. Type of pluck (Depending on the head placement, the pluck furthest from your forehead will have the most scream, distortion, or bite).
4. Filter override (you can place your fingers on the headband to remove some of the grit -- to tame the beast a little).

Sadly... there is no polyphony, and it only plays one note. I gotta figure out which note that is.

Well I'll try it out... but your best bet is to tack a tiny microphone in your earphone to record what you're hearing, right?

Try that

Try using the headphones AS a mic?
