Beatmatching

So I've been practicing this whole beatmatching thing for two or three months. When I started, I would get the songs lined up and playing together, then I would listen REALLY carefully and try to figure out which one was going faster. I would listen carefully to either the kick drum of hi-hat, and attempt to determine which sound was coming from which track, and which one was lagging behind.

But now, I am finding that I don't have to actually listen to a beat or a hi-hat, I am just cueing them up letting them play, and I just can kind of "feel" whether I need to speed it up or slow it down. I feel like I am more getting the overall impression instead of analyzing the minute details of the tracks.

Is this the way it works? I am trying to figure out if I have just been getting lucky or if I am really getting the hang of this beatmatching thing.

it should all become second nature to you eventually.. many djs dont spend more than 15-20 secs on beatmatching.. i hope to be there sometime soon haha
