Only way to mix music together imo, ive been doing it this way from the start before i switched to cd's i don't know why more dj's dont do it :) theres a few tech house tracks in there too if that's what your into, or you can dl my last mix that had more tech and tribal also mixed harmonicly

i think it goes without saying that most big name dj's/producers mix in key naturally just like beatmatching, its like second nature |

ive been practicing harmonic mixing since dec, but as of late I have been trying to break myself of picking tracks that go together harmonically. I still string together a lot that are harmonic, but I don't want that to solely dictate what I play.

hah i know all about harmonic mixing including the tempo rules for changing keys, and modulation techniques. its really the best way to mix. it can make a mix soooo smooth if you do it right, almost impossible to spot transitions to the untrained ear. |

Ya for sure! also as much as i love smooth seamless mixes, i think that some mixes should be recognized and should give you the feeling of being thrown into a different mood or else its just gonna sound like one long song and gets kinda boring after awhile.. and like what boomer is saying mixes dont always have to be ferfectly in key just so long as they work and don't sound sour or drop the energy in a set.. ok im starting to ramble now but yeah lol |

yup, some songs just fit together naturally even if theyre not in compatible keys. a lot of tracks in digweed's transitions 3 are out of key yet they still sound dope when mixed, and it helps build the mood. but there are also ways to switch keys harmonically, and build up to different keys so the whole mix doesn't sound the same. that's what i do. remember: exactly 4 keys=perfect harmony 2 or more=relative harmony .....or something like that. but by no means do you have to stay in the same key the whole mix. most of the time i'll go through the whole spectrum in a mix, while still avoiding key clashes. and you also have to know what tracks to pick, most harmonic mixing works best for warm melodic tracks, and not as well for techno and minimal. so does offer a lot of flexibility if you know how to use it. |

about staying in the same key i personally dont even like same key mixes they just blend too well if that makes any sense lol
