I just tried to order a pair of studio headphones from the states at about 90 bucks... Long & Mac & Maffaggers are still charging 150 for teh samer phones and won't price drop or match like they claim. I ordered it, and customs told me I needed to pay all sorts of bull duties and garbage on top of PST+GST. Ended up coming out to 148, I told them to send that back! BIYAASH! :whip: |

And that's where TA comes into the game. Here are some steps to take to rip off the government:
1. Find a lovely TA living south of the border.
2. Buy your stuff and ship it to the friendly TA in point #1.
3. Road Trip to your new found ally against injustice with your trunk filled with Labatt Blue. (The US add for that beer is "Imported daily from Canada", and hence you contribute to that terrific import)
4. Have a massive party at his/her place that night.
5. Get up early the next day, take your merchandise and get the out of there before they make you clean the mess from the party.
6. Stop at a gas station.
7. Duct tape your new belonging under your car.
8. Fill up, gas is cheaper there.
9. At the customs, declare nothing.
10. Get back home and enjoy.
PS: this also works if your American friend ships it to you stating that the value is $10 or so. But this approach is much less fun than the one described above. |

My friend just brought home a 2006 Infinity FX from Chicago. He had to pay 13% duty at the border, and an additional 6% due to its status as an import.
After those taxes, he still saved $8k when compared to the best deal he could negotiate on the same model in Ontario.
He had a bit of a hassle at the border, but all in all he said it was well worth it. And Infinity has a North American warranty. |

I think the ban and problems is for new cars only though so that is why your friend didn't get hassled too much. |

My friend is a broker, he buys used cars in the US and brings them back here, he takes care of the paperwork and everything else.
Cars have very low mileage and are usually almost brand new, plenty of 2007 models.
The prices are simply incredible.....
Altima 2007 fully equiped for 26k
Explorer 2006 V8, 35k km, Limited Edition(leather, dvd, navig, etc) for 26k
etc etc. |

there's NAFTA rearing its ugly head once more. I'm not surprised by this at all. With our dollar so strong lately, prices should at least be coming down a little bit, but they won't.
And I don't expect our tit useless PM to do anything about it either. In many ways, living in this country can really shaft you up the ass. |
i thought NAFTA was supposed to remove trade barriers like this ..
anyways, i hear just avoid the border states if you're going to border shop for a car

| I think we'll see a price decline in general in the near future. Flaherty is starting to put pressure on the industries. |
