1. Mix comps are usually intended for those who aren't necessarily that big into the artist and therefore it provides an easy avenue to hear a rough synopsis of what the artist plays without having to scour about for a decent live set.
2. Who says most people "buy" them anyways?
3. Do you use post-it notes to remember to breathe? |

True, especially when the artist in question has a regular radio broadcast, in which case the typical semi-annual compilation release merely plays out as a more refined version of the show, but offers very few surprises to consistent listeners (especially in the case of ASOT and GDJB). I think I enjoyed the annual ASOT mix comps a whole lot more when I wasn't tuning in on a weekly basis.
But it's also a useful snapshot of productions that are making waves across dancefloors around the world, which is useful for both dedicated fans and casual listeners alike. |

You're not making any sense, and you know it. |

Official collection of successful productions = usefulness for dedicated fans.
Major productions usually don't escape these big name DJ's, and I don't know about you, but if I'm a fan of a DJ and the majority of the tunes they've been banging out over the course of several months a mixed compilation of those tunes sure is useful.
I read your above comments regarding the listening of the tracks in unmixed format and the downloading of sets, and although this is not the place to become thoroughly involved in a discussion of the legitimacy of mix CD's, suffice it to say that your comments hardly provide a better alternative to mix compilations.
I'd like to say that your apparent aversion towards mix compilations sheds some light on your unnecessary unpleasantness, though from looking at the above behavior you've displayed on this thread, it appears you have more going on than a mere dislike of mix comps, in which case you're on your own. |

Also, mix comps allow the dj to play tracks he or she may not necessarily play out in a club. Mix comps are usually intended to provide a much different atmosphere and allow for more experimentation and planning than that of a club set (not to say that this is the rule to live by, but it is prevalent enough to mention it).
Then again, I've no idea why I'm trying to defend the status of mix compilations in electronic music to a person whom has such a vast dearth of intelligence such as Venire. |
