I'm not saying you can't form good friendships in this place. I'm just saying (and feel free to call me old-fashioned) I find it odd when people resort to the internet to make real friends...
I've got the same issue with online dating sites - I've just never met any normal people that use them.. maybe Australia is behind the times?

Interestingly enough, I had some help with a budget on one of my grants last year from an older single woman who had signed up for one of those dating things, I'm not sure what you call them, the websites where you post pictures and descriptions of yourself and interact with other users and if you're interested, you get together irl, go out.
I was kind of surprised. I thought only losers would sign up for one of those sites. She actually had to pay a monthly fee. So long story short, she was really attractive, she seemed really nice, fun, kick back.
