Need Advice for upgrading my DJ equipment
View this Thread in Original format

Currently have:
2 Pioneer CDJ-200
1 Vestax PCV-275 Mixer
1 Pioneer HDJ-1000 Headphones

The equipment I have works fine, and I have learned all the basics with it, now I want to experience with more things, other than the basics.

I'm debating between getting a used Pioneer DJM-600 and adding an EFX-500.
I read on some forums that the EFX-500 has the same effects as the DJM-600. if this is a true then it's worth getting the DJM-600, or should I just buy the EFX-500 and hook it up to my Vestax PCV-275, that way I will have the same effects.
I know that sound quality of the DJM-600 is supposed to be better than the Vestax, but keep in mind that I will mostly be spinning in underground parties with a "common" sound setup, and sometimes in clubs, but most of this clubs don't have awesome sound.
Will I hear the difference in sound in my bedroom, or with "mid-level" speakers?

For this situation, what would be your choice?
Vestax PCV-275 + EFX-500, or DJM-600 alone?
also is it really worth the EFX-1000 over the EFX-500?
Vestax PCV-275 + EFX-1000, or DJM-600 alone?

other choice for me would be just wait and saving money for a Xone 92, but that would take a long time, maybe a year, so for a while I'm thinking of getting an EFX-500 or an EFX-1000 so I can be learning new stuff, and then later get the xone 92.
I haven't used the Xone 92, but I love filters, and I've heard that they are very nice on the Xone 92, also it has indepent filters, I guess that means you can use them at the same time on different channels. Can I do this with the Xone 62?

About the CDJ's I'm not interested in upgrading at all, I already have master perfect beatmatching with them, so no need for me to upgrade, actually I prefer them over the CDJ-1000 MK3, and that's one of the reasons I'm askign for advice here, beacuse before knowing any DJ equipment I dream of the CDJ-1000, and now I have realized that I was wrong and they are just over-priced compared to the CDJ-200.

I know I wrote a lot, but I want an special advice for my situation, I dont' want this to be a Xone 62 Vs DJM-600, or DJM-800 Vs Xone 92 war.

Thanks for your help

In my opinion, sound quality on the djm600's aren't too great.
How much are you paying for the used one?
Most likely, you can find better mixers for the price you're probably paying for it. Since you want effects, if you're not planning on getting more decks, I'd stick with the pvc275's and get the efx500.

The advantage of getting an EFX is that you can hook your effects anywhere you want. If you get the DJM600, you must stick with the DJM for effects.

I say, stick with a "basic" mixer and get extras on AUX outputs/intputs ;)

Um probably look into a Nuo 4 or Nuo 3 (with an effector). I have a Vestax and my DJM 400 sounds so much better with CDs than the Vestax did. The Vestax is analog..remember, and most of it was designed for TTs with vinyl (an analog medium). Although the Nuo 3 is analog, it's going to produce much better sound than an old Vestax mixer (which is still good) has. Newer analog technology basically.

the vestax has send/return ports but to be honest, they dont work that well with the efx500 (talking out of experience).. i've had issues with them and i also have read that alotta people can't set it up to work right!! we may all have the wrong configuration but i honestly doubt it!!

i have an efx500(48k) and the quality when used is just in my opinion.. would i prefer using the 1000 (96k)?, obviously.. but i dont think the price justifies it... i say use the efx500 for bedroom use so that when u play out in a gig u would know how the 1000s work!!

About $350 for an Used DJM-600, probably the same price that I can get a DJM-400.

Well the Nuo 3 it's just too basic, I'm thinking of makinga big jump on a mixer quality, to an high-end mixer.

I used once the DJM-400 (outdoor party) and I loved it, but to be honest I didn't noticed the difference in sound between the Vestax Mixer and the DJM-400 in the same place. another issue is that it only has RCA Outs, and I would like to have more master output options.

Thanks for advice.

Well I'm a little confused here, I heard this issue before, but some people say they have no problem at all.

what about DJM-400 Effects Vs - Efx-500?
or the DJM-800 Effects Vs - Efx-500?

Thanks for the help

hmm.. although i'm not a big fan of djm600, $350 isn't bad at all as long as it functions properly without any problems, but if you want to take the big jump in upgrading your mixer, i would recommend that you look into other mixers. if i were to choose from the djm400 & 600, i would go with the 400, but would definitely go with other options, if you're up for it. if you can afford it, you should check out the djm800's, or even nuo5's.

but anyways,

djm400 > djm600

EvilTree
xone > djm

someone's gotta say it :p

Not newer analog technology, just BETTER quality.

Really, really really good sounding analog mixers were where we started (Bozak, Urei 1620). But they have always been expensive. Those two mixers are still coveted to this day and a reconditioned model will run you around $2000 USD.

It's easier and cheaper to make a "decent" sounding digital mixer than it is to make a great sounding analog mixer.

Neither is better... a good quality mixer is just that, good quality.

Ecler, Rane and A+H make very good sounding analog mixers.
