its not even close to the failure rate as the 360s...only thing was the red rings of death are pretty simple to fix.

Yeah? New DVD and or MB? (on the 360s?)
What was up and what was the fix? (PS3s)

360 the solder heats up and disconnects from the board. all you have to do is heat the board up so the solder remelts itself back into place.
ps3 is just a simple reset of the bios. really stupid fix, and we're all kind of embarrased as to how we over looked it..but w/e. i found it, so i rule.

So, what happens when the 360 heats up, again, and the solder cracks, again?

:eyes: Holy Xbox 720! My job is soldering thats crazy it would have to be over 400 degrees inside them things. I solder between 600 - 640 degrees. Hard to believe.

then it gives you the red lights again, cause we don't fix anything with the cooling system. but microsoft has been pumping out refurbed 360s with new cooling systems that should stop it from happening in the future.

well the 360s overheating aren't melting the solder, they're just disconnecting from the board. ie heat expands. the reflow machine though does melt all the solder back into place...like a giant soldering iron.

Cool (pun not intended) but surely MS would have realised this before releasing a console that overheats. Rather dramatically too. Ok, so they can be fixed, but still...

That sounds pretty sweet (I had to stop myself from using the word "cool" again) but surely the rest of the Xbox's insides aren't really going to enjoy ~400 degree temps?

I remember one time I spent days trying to fix my PC. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any signal from the video card. Turns out it wasn't plugged in. :wtf:

well machine only fits ontop of the main chips, cpus and gpus. i'm not really sure how they do it (cause i'm on ps3s and wiis, the black guy that looks like wesley snipes is the guy that reflows xboxes). all i know is that you use this orange goo called flux that attracts solder so the solder melts where you want it or somthing.
