I have a partitioned hard drive and im putting it into another computer. XP only detects one partitino and not the other (the other one is there but its saying its a logical disk and needs to be reformated) I know my data is there but how do i view it?
do i convert to dynamic disk? |

| Is the XP operating system installed on either of the partitions on this drive you're trying to transplant? |

if i were you, i would just find a bum hard drive lying around...and install xp on it.
put the other hard drive with critical data on it....then do your backup to the new bum hard dive. switch the jumpers and format your partition.
long and annoying, and there's probably an easier way. but if it comes down to it, you can do that. |

heres the situation. Disk 1 is the transplanted disk. I cannot read the G partition. But the E partition works. How can i get disk manager to detect the G partition?
what about dynamic disk function? should i use that? |

Hmmm, both C and E drives state that the file system in NTFS, but no file system shows for your G drive.
I don't actually know what that means though, sorry mate :(
Unless, when you initially created the partition, you chose FAT32 or something? I don't even know if that would make a difference.
I'll ask my gf when she gets back, maybe she'll know. She's a bit of a tech-ninja. |

| it was working 2 hours ago on my other computer. Maybe if i try to start it up as the master on this computer Are u sure its not an issue of windows detecting a partitioned drive with an operating system? |

Does the G: drive have XP installed on it? ie. Was it the main drive on your old computer? |

it wouldnt matter. it doesnt make sense that the thing has half the drive detected and not the other. sounds like an MBR problem. |
