Is it possible to build your own laptop that is way cheaper than what you get in the market ?

Nothing too fancy, just a normal laptop configuration that you can buy off deals2buy for $600-800.

Where do I start and where do I shop for hardware and stuff ?

You will have to search on how to built one, I think there called Barebook or Barebone laptops. But sites like dell.com or Alienware.com will let you built your own laptop.

Yes you can physically build your own laptop. It's not wise though, due to the ever changing nature of the product. It is much more cost effective to by one from a manufacturer. One day though you will be able to right now most of the parts are not interchangeable, and the only real upgrades you can add to one are ram, optical and hard disk drives. There was a thing going for awhile that allowed you to upgrade your video card but that kind of died out.
