Part of the reason, as I understand it, was that there were certain materials used in either the endless rotary knobs or the DSP chip of the Nord Lead 3 that were deemed hazardous according to some new environmental laws (the RoHS Directive) that were passed sometime last year. There seems to be some disagreement on if it was a material in the knobs or a material used in the Motorola DSP chip that powered the Nord Lead 3.

This might also be the reason why the new nord wave uses the NL2 style knobs instead of the endless rotaries.

Get a hardware gear is a magic thing!

I can't understand why Nord Lead 3 was discontinued, Nord Wave is not in the same category of it and really not a substitute.
I was plain to get a NL3 in near future because of it specific soul and now I'm frustrated..

:clown:

my point was that they don't design synths for people that make trance so don't act surprised when the design doens't cater to people that make EDM.

The unison on the NL3 was nice but it was really the stack feature that made the NL3 great. Unfortunately it lacks both.

They can't hope to compete at all with the Virus TI without a VSTi interface.

At least it still has the awesome FM of the NL3, though. The sample playback and modulation system might be fun.

^ good lord I hope that price is wrong.

There are a few for sale on eBay at about $2,700 USD, too.

Wow. I can only see Clavia fan-boys getting one of these. $3,000 USD for a Nord Lead 2 with the addition of FM, FX, and audio importing.

The only advantage I can see at this point: maybe it will bring NL3 prices down...

virus and waldorf pretty much design for electronic music as far as i know. and also the lead serie was that. atleast all the samples, all the presets etc are pretty much usuable for edm. listen to the samples from nord rack 2x i think it sounds great. clavia have other series for other things like the organ, piano kombo thing etc. hardware is indeed for edm.

the nord2 was made when edm was on the the top 10 pop charts. I think it is pretty obvious that this new keyboard was designed for performance because of the single output. I don't think sales to people producing niche edm are that significant.

NL3 keyboard was about EUR 1800-1900 at Thomann this spring, while Wave is 2000. So Wave's slightly more expensive, or NL3's price had come down a bit over the years.

NL2 and NL3 are discontinued, no? so why does it matter what happens to their prices ...

oh so 2X is an improved 2? The Nord 2X Rack is $799 at guitarcenter, sounds a little cheap for an improved nord lead 2? Are you sure it's not a "lite" version of the real lead 2?

Hey guys, a friend wants to sell his Nord Lead 3.
Less than 6 months of use, like new, comes with an red hard case and for a good price.
I think I will sell my Juno-G, add some money and get it!! Need advices!

So my synth setup will be perfect? A JP-8000, Nord Lead 3 and Virus TI kb (Virus I'm plaining for the middle of next year)..

Need advices!

If you can get it for a good price, then definitely do it. NL3s have a really clean, solid sound, lots of great sounding defined timbres in there. It'll go nicely with a JP80x0 and Virus (I have an 8080 and Virus KC). They all offer very classic, different sounds perfect for trance. Those three are among the main synths I use for trance. That trio will give you plenty of great sounds!

companies sell wants , not needs. The fact that EDM producers might have a nl2 is irrelevant. If there was a lot of money to yank out of EMD producers , they would find something to sell them.

Selling NL3? Sheeeeet.. that's gotta be some serious financial strain to rid of it.

I got NL3 aaaand original NL1 keyboard with PCMCIA expansion + cards. Sell it? Nah, more like pry it out of my cold dead fingers

especially now that I got a Boss Space Echo (SE 20) and I'm running that bad boy through it??? fuggetaboutit!

I love Ti but NL1/NL3 are in a category of their own... That's why I have a P0LAR next to NL3, just in case I want to assure that NL3 still sounds great. Tho, something about that Nord that makes it sound so lush and analog and chrisp, whenever you need it.

Here's my humble demo of NL3 (no sequencers, no FX, straight up NL3) 18MB:

Nothing beats NL3, personality of its own... stands tall and proud next to other synths.
