Presonus Firebox

Just picked one up for $250, it's used but in very good condition, barely used because it didn't work on the previous owner's computer.
So far it sounds amazing and was instant plug and play on my macbook pro. It's also super portable exactly what I wanted.
Sounds good in Logic Pro and I think it will take my productions to a new dimension- my monitors sounds like they never have before! (Probably because before I had them plugged in through the headphone jack to a Y cable to a vestax mixer out to unbalanced RCAs) Now I have the firebox and two 1/4 inch studio quality cables...
Will continue to review as I use it more, but so far so good! |

I've had mine since March and it's fantastic. Even works faultlessly on my non-TI firewire Dell which most others have trouble with. Plus as an added bonus you could throw it at a wall and nothing would happen to it. It's just built that tough. I love quality gear.
Can't believe I've seen people refer to it as a low end product. Ahaha, works better than a ton of other audio interfaces that are double the price. |

I bought it based on reccomendations to be honest... I know a lot of musicians who use it as their onstage audio interface solution... Built like a tank and super low latency.
Blow any similarly priced/spec'd m-audio out of the water... and INSTANT plug and play on a mac! I didn't even need to install drivers. |

| Yea same here. Saw a majority of very good reviews which is why I get shocked when I see someone say something bad about it (which is rare). Took me 5min to install drivers for XP and I was off. |

| So ur using core audio drivers? anyone know what the latency's like with the ASIO drivers? |

The only problem with it is the noisy mic pres. Otherwise it's solid.
I still don't get this nonsense about TI Firewire either. It's unnecessary for the Firebox because it's unnecessary, period. |

I'm not saying that there aren't a whole lot of ty Firewire implementations out there - just that there's nothing special about the TI chips. It's possible (although, unlikely I think) that TI has put fewer lousy chips on the market than other manufacturers, but even so, it's not correct to say that you need a TI chip to avoid firewire problems; you just need a chip that doesn't blow chunks. |

Hah! I worked out what they were talking about! Texas Instruments, TI! So noisy mic pres huh? I'll have to go and actually test the thing out I guess, thinking of picking up a firestudio.... |

| I had a firebox running with my laptop using a cheap no-name pcmcia firewire card. It run so smoothly. Probably one of the most solid pieces of external hardware I have ever used. My only problem was like digi said, the mic pres are not all that spectacular. |

| It's not that TI chipsets are anything special, its that there are a few VIA chipsets that suck anus. They seem to have problems with just about everything, yet they are extremely popular. It's easier for people to just assume whatever they have is crap. ;) |
