There's some good electro out there for sure.
Problem is there's a ton of crap too. and some of it is really bad.
seems too many electro tracks are utterly destroyed by some obnoxious lead synth that makes me want to hunt down the producer and smack him upside the head with a mallet for hurting my ears. |

So people should just force themselves to stick to one specific genre rather than just producing what they feel like producing? :rolleyes:
I guess I see what you mean about people who just make whatever is popular though, but those people probably dont have much creativity to start with... |

The second paragraph you wrote nails my sentiment. To be honest, I took a break from my crappy trance and started composing some breaks, ambient, and even symphonic crud (genre experimentation). However, I didn't start on those trails because a label would be more likely to take me on, or had delusions of grandeur. You listen to music, you acquire sincere feelings for it, and suddenly you want to convey your own thoughts/emotions through those 'vehicles' of expression. That's acceptable genre-hopping.
In retrospect, I'll admit my fallacy: a false cause-and-effect relationship concerning creativity. In that sense, I stand corrected. Actually, I believe that I would be worse off as a "musician" if I stayed in one genre and somehow, someway got signed for it. |

ive been making what i find most enjoyable for four years. im not hoping to be famous either. id just like to make some money doing this eventually. as for the genre hoping, close mindedness im being flamed for...i can make music that expresses myself regardless of genre. what i was asking is if you guys thought that electro house was a good vehicle to get my musical ideas a crossed to others and whether or not it would be around to do so for a while. and to address talk of "selling out" to one genre. think about classical composers like mozart and bach. they stuck to one genre and made some of the most amazing music ever. if anyone here has every taken a college level theory class that teaches the four part chorale style you should realize how unbelievably structured their musical styles were. they composed under guidelines more strict than any genre of music now. |

I looked into electro and progressive house because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I was already listening to some progressive Trance and progressive house in my favorite DJ sets, and found I liked those styles more than uplifting trance. At first I didn't like electro, but I gave it a chance and it grew on me. I understand where electro comes from, some of the music I used to listen to in the early 80's was a foreunner of it. So I definately can relate to it. There are some forms of it I like less than others. I like a track that has a mix of electro and progressive house elements. That's the way my tracks seem to turn out.
It's a lot of fun to produce. When I get a bit tired of working on my progressive house tunes, I switch over to electro. Genre hopping like that actually feeds my creativity. Keeps it fresh. I find Electro is still very open to experimentation.
Electro is going to be popular for a long time. The oringinal purpose of the DJ was to play music people could dance to. Electro serves that purpose well.
Every genre market is saturated, so might as well produce the styles you enjoy. Why worry about what's hot and what's not, or what's on the way out? |

I thought that fad died in 2006, around the same time the minimal fad started.
Please at least do us all a favour and don't call it "electro house" if it has nothing in common with either electro or house. |
