I MADE THE FINAL CUT! HELP ME OUT!

Take a listen, and throw in your votes, and confirm via e-mail.
I've really been enjoying remixing lately. It's given me incentive to try new genres, and this one is no exception. It's my first attempt at drum and bass. I don't know much about the genre, but I chose to stay away from cut up and glitchy percussion, since I wanted the focus to be the melodic qualities. Percussion is from remix pack loops (2 layered) with a clean amen break at times just for the hell of it. :) Strings, piano, glitchy white noise, deep bass, etc. are mine.

Interesting use of piano theatrics, guitar work and glitch work as an intro. The liquid drum lines start to drop and I am definately digging the position of the vocals in the mix. You use the piano as the bass from the get-go, which is definately creative, and then you switch to a square-bass later on.
I haven't heard the original tune, so I'll have to look up those lyrics when I get a chance. I like the feel of this piece. It has electronica mayhem backed up by a somewhat organic feel of piano and orchestral parts. I like that combination in Drum&bass.
Thanks for sharing this. I have been listening to more drum&bass lately, and I think this makes the cut. However, I am still not the finest d&B connoisseur.
6.8/10... (If I had a CD with this tune on it, I'd not be dissapointed) |

| cool fx at start.. somewhat psychedelic sound effects your using.. nice drum loops, im not a D&B listener myself but i think you could turn up the volume of the kick just a little bit.. or maybe just a slight bass boost.. i dont know the original tune though.. but this doesnt sound to bad. i like the piano work in this tune.. while im listening to this tune i feel like it is missing something.. but i dont know what.. good work man, and good luck on winning that ipod :p |

very sinister, very dnb :P
I like the fine-tuning and tweaking of instruments. It's kinda evil car commercial in a good way. All I can suggest is maybe switching up or variating loops here/there, pitching the drums down/up a bar, and other drum tweakage. Paint it like you detailed the rest of the tune! Good luck with the contest, regardless :o |

I've heard a few of your tunes mate and what I really like is that you don't do generic standard stuff. Your tracks always have an individuality about them. This is no exception. I dont listen to drum and bass much but this seems much lighter and more uplifting than standard drum and bass.
Some of the sounds have a slight dullness about them but overall the mix seems well balanced, the piano is great and the arrangement is excellent.
Not my usual cup of tea but I like it.
Oh and the repeat effect that comes in later on is brilliant. |

Well I'm glad that the uniqueness of the track is being appreciated.
Sometimes that's the result of experimentation and chance. I don't want it to be that way, to be honest, but I'm sure I'll come about with time.
I think what the tune is missing is clarity! Going from 24/96 to 128kbps mp3 (only thing they accept) is just disgusting. I'm beginning to think digital download distribution may ruin people's appreciation for production quality. Hopefully mass storage and internet speeds will get to a point relatively soon where 16/44.1 is easily transferred and stored.
I digress...
I chose not to pitch the drums up and down as it seems a bit typical in DnB. That, and I did want this to be a bit more organic. I may do a more techy DnB if time allows, in which case I'll go ape- on everything. :D Leon says 'sinister', which is funny because when I originally set out to do music production I wanted to produce melodic and uplifting trance, and most of my stuff has been a bit dark!
G-Con, very nice of you to say my tracks have individuality. I hope that as I get better at this stuff that the individuality will remain.
The repeat effect was so easy, it's sickening. I almost took it out because I didn't want ANY glitch stuff in there, but I figured it was tame/slow enough to keep. Ableton Live 6... recorded bass and strings to another track... put in Simpler behind arpeggiator... assign Mod wheel to arp. time and sample start... adjust ranges to suit... hold C and move Mod wheel. There you have it, Alan's trick of the day. :D
Thanks for the listen, all! |

Sounds interesting! Very dark atmosphere. The only part I donīt like that much, is that between 3:54-4:26, think itīs being to much. Really like it otherwise! Nice job! :)
Takere!

| holy , you did 3 last minute submissions? All of them sound like potential finalists, too bad you can only get one into the finals. Nevertheless I'm impressed by such high quality at that high quantity. |
