that's cool, but what (if any) indication is there that this particular planet would have similar characteristics to earth? is the size of a star and the orbit around it the only two variables for a habitable planet? how do they know there is water on it?

someone must find me answers :)

Since the elements of the universe are same everywhere, my guess is that life exists only where conditions that are fundamentally similar to earth exist. That means a vast majority of the variables and not just the planet orbit and star size, need to be just right for creating a habitable environment. Having said that, local variables greatly affect the way species evolve. It is hard to say how different they will be from us. Life form exhibits infinite diversity on this earth itself !! what can we say about some other planet ? Except maybe that we share the same fundamental causes for existence on our respective planets.

Experts have stated that it would probably take about 41 light years. So, adjusting for traffic, I'd say 43-44 realistically.

In a few thousand years, they're going to refer to these times as the "look but can't touch" age. We discover things, but can't do since we have no means of getting to them. And the few planets we do have access to, we just manage to crash probes into.

its all hypothetical research really....i mean, no one actually SAW th eplanet...its all based on the way that other things move around in a certain area.

coulda been just a spider on their telescope. lol
