In the Top 40 world, some songs are ok to play twice. Those are the hits. Like the stupid song I hate SOULJA BOY!!!

Look at the boy all the way to the right. He's pretty good!

Everyone made great points. At least if the DJ played a different or newer remix it would be cool, but as stated above with EDM its a no no.

in the top40 world, there's no such thing as bad music... or a bad dj...

What's with openers that cane the headliner's own productions? :wtf:

How about a headliner playing the same song twice? I've seen that happened a few times.

DJs should make a point to play music no one else really plays. I never understood why DJs must insist to play the same old top 40's tracks. This is the reason for hearing the same played out tracks more than once in one night.

I think any opening DJ should know enough about the headliner to stay away from anything he might play.

I was just thinking... If I'm opening, I'm not there to bang a popular track... that's reserved for the headliner. The opening DJ is there to simply warm up the crowd... not try to build an army of fans or steal the proverbial 'thunder'.

If a headliner is closing then the local opener should know who they are opening for. The opener should not play a bunch of tracks the headliner will play but rather build up progressively to the headliners style.

I'm not going to lie, I agree. However it's not always 100% sure-fire way to prevent such a thing from happening. I could be the biggest Digweed-whore around, listen to every episode of Transitions, download every liveset and look at every tracklist from the last 20 sets leading up to the night I open for him. After all that, there's still a chance that I have a tune that he rarely ever plays, or that people just haven't got around to giving an ID to. That said, the chances of it happening are still greatly reduced.

I also think that in general a headlining DJ should listen to the opening sets of the evening. I'm a huge fan of flow, and while most DJs do have a certain flow to their own sets the headlining DJs don't seem to acknowledge the flow of the evening thus far. Most have taken this "rockstar" approach to just showing up, playing what they want and getting the out. Yeah, their set might be great but they totally mess with the energy and flow of the night between the opener and their own sets if they don't listen and get an actual feel for what is going on. Every club, every crowd, every opening DJ is different. Any international headliner will know this, yet I've rarely found one who will act on it.
