too many people liking techno now........im scared

I've been saying for the last year and a half that techno would be the next big thing in Toronto.

Its been huge in Europe for awhile now and its finally made its way here.

It's always been in Europe. Minimal and Techno is the main core in all Europe for many many years. No wonder why Richie left Canada, and he did a smart move, because Germany is probably the main scene where minimal and techno lives, with really wise and well educated in audience in techno/minimal. Canada is all about Trance and Electro. I bet that's why he even decided to get drunk, he knew the crowd is not minimal/techno oriented...

I wouldn't say its made its way here just yet. (I could be way off in this statement but this is my two cents) I know we obviously have a healthy techno scene, but I wouldn't say the movement (that is in my opinion coming) hit yet.

I was in Ibiza for 7 days this summer, I heard minimal/techno at EVERY event we went too. It's pretty much swalloed up Ibiza and the rest of Europe at the moment.

I think (THIS SPECIFIC - SEE RICHIE VIDEO) formula of techno is going to be the biggest thing to hit our scene in years. It's a totally ing new genre (techno yes has been around forever, but this specific combination of minimal, hisses, computer melodies has really hit the mark) and it's ing mindwarping at a party.

Agree, disagree? I'm still working on this theory lol

I agree with you Jon, but I will also add that I think it is a matter of people opening up their minds to the music as well instead of being such a genre snob :)

Whether they are opening up due to a specific tune, a friend or just from other people's chatter about specific djs/music... however it may be, I am ok with that. It just means more dj's to bring to TO now that are geared more toward what I REALLY want to hear :gsmile:

ummm no theres a load of techno people here and from detroit, and it was an older crowd for the most part. Richie gets drunk all the time, hes finally haveing fun, but i tell you drunk or not the guys got the eye of the tiger, its like hes on another planet when he settles in to his surrounding, very surreal.

And yes Hawtin's set at DC10 was just different, better, hard for me to explain. There was just something totally different (in another league) about his set that was special.

I would agree with that. Detroit is probably one of the only states that techno is that big in. Yes, there are a number of people in both Canada and the US that love it, but we cannot be compared to what it is in Europe.
