And what's wrong with that?! :conf:
I actually perceive these points as being good (reason why I tend to agree with PKC on this issue). |

the same sovereignty used to invade other countries against world opinion? to ignore international law? to ignore treaties? to wilfully behave in a manner that destabilises an entire region?
since when should ANY nation have absolute sovereignty in a global environment?

how do you figure? id say there'd be even more balances to power in a world government that has a million factional considerations. indeed, a world government would probably never get anything done. just look at the UN ;)
simple fact is, a world government is an impossibility. there are too many impediments. really, just think about the complexity. just not going to happen. and if it does eventually, it will be well and truly after we're all dead so im not going to worry about it too much. |

That is the Alex Jones theory, no? In fact, isn't that the opening thesis to his movie? |

Sovereignty is necessary to keep the peace. Sovereignty is a respect for a nation to govern themselves. Without sovereignty, who is to say America doesn't have the right to invade Iraq?

Check & balances is essential to a fair democracy. If all power is consolidated into one group of hands, then who is to stop them if they feel they must rule with an iron fist? Balance of power is necessary in this world. Look at the Middle East. Iran wasn't so much of a rabble rouser before 2003, because they had Baathist Iraq to worry about. Then the US screwed up that balance of power and opened up a power vacuum that Iran probably sees as an opportunity. |

Well, who is to say the one-world government doesn't have the right to rule with an iron fist? Governments have always come and go. Democracies have never lasted forever. If there is just one world government in the form of democracy, who is to stop them if they declare a global emergency, and martial law? What if that martial law never ends, who is to stop them? |
