[Review] I <3 TECNO 2007 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biggest, craziest party I've ever been to!! The venue was freaking HUGE. The event spanned across 6 rooms; 1 chill out room and 5 main rooms which each could hold 5,000 - 6,000 people. I will never complain about Pacha or any other local venue being a sweat-fest ever again. Sweat was literally dripping down from the ceiling throughout the entire venue, and the floors everywhere were slippery with sweat and other fluids lol, 'nuff said. For such a large event, it was incredibly well organized. There were tons of free trams/trolleys that drove us from the train station to the venue, and there were tons ready and waiting to pick everyone up at the end. There was no use of cash to buy food/drinks. We used I <3 Techno tickets to pay for food/drinks which eliminated tipping and dealing with money counting and change etc.

Anyway, enough w/fine details, here's what it looked like walking into the place from the 1st person.. :)

This was the first room I entered after coat check: The Chill Out Room

My initial thought was.. Wow!:eyes: lol. It really looked like something I'd expect to take place outdoors.

Walked past the chillout room and into the center room, which leads to all other rooms. Decided to walk into the first open room I saw which was really just a huge dance space sectioned off by a huge curtain and here's what it looked like.. :)

*WARNING* SEIZURE ALERT!
If your eyes are weak, feel free to put on some sunglasses before watching

The cealings had to be at least 100 feet up. I'd arrived pretty late which was partially my fault for staying out at club Cocoon the night before  but I also had a pretty difficult time navigating from Brussels, where I stayed, to Ghent. In any case I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the place and amount of people that were there, so I'm not sure who was spinning in the room I went through and I moved on to the Blue Room where Digitlism was spinning. So now, onto my official review of the acts.. :)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the full lineup: Dave Clarke – Justice Live – Goose Live – DJ Rush – Miss Kittin & The Hacker Live – Digitalism Live – Technasia Dj Set – Trentemoller Live – Adam Beyer – Felix Da Housecat – Dr. Lektroluv – Ben Sims – Klaxons Live – Ellen Allien – Sven Wittekind Live – Mathew Jonson Live – Boys Noize – Marco Bailey – British Murder Boys Live – Erol Alkan - Redshape Live – Marco Remus – Stephan Bodzin – Simian Mobile Disco Live – Felix Krφcher – Dj Ghost – 2000 and One - MSTRKRFT – Gui Boratto Live – Len Faki – Electronmike Vs Bernd Isaac – Cosy Mozzy - Monica Electronica - Alter Ego

^^ That is; Techno of all kinds, as well as / Electro / House / Rock / and Hardstyle (which was freaking nuts! :eyespop: )

Walked into the Blue Room as Digitalism was wrapping up their set and Ellen Allien was getting her set started. What I heard of Digitalism was all right, but to be honest, a lot of the electro I heard that night was a bit outdone by the thundering bass of pure techno in the adjacent rooms.

Allien's intro was a bit like a spaceship had landed lol..

As always, it's good to see the female DJs representing. She dropped some sick, dark beats in the beginning, but she was just warming up and I had already missed so much so I decided to see what was up in another room..

The whole place, needless to say, more packed than I'd ever seen anyplace. So much so, that some people stopped caring about courteousness lol.

Bathroom line too long? Why wait when there's a perfectly good dance floor to piss on... Yeah, it was like that. As I said, I'll never complain about another night at Pacha lol.

So yeah, on to the Orange Room where Erol Alkan was spinning.

I think I lost a few years of my life in this room :eyespop: . He played some of the gritty electro he's known for, along with techno that blew my freaking mind!! And it sounded like this..

It was track after track of goodness.

This one was an insaaaane buildup to an amaaazing track that I'd like ID'd please lol.

continued.. gotta love those lights. The light setup was very different in each room btw.

As his set progressed the room got more and more packed until I think they eventually closed it off as no one could really move. His set came to a close and he encored with this one.. which floored me.

what a fun track!!:wtf:

Just when I thought the room couldn't get anymore full, Justice followed Alkan's set and kids ran from all parts of the building to get in any way that they could. Again, entry was shut down for a good while as the room was full to capacity..

Justice spun their usual sick gritty, grimy electro productions, but I only stayed for a few tracks before continuing on, as I've seen them and many others on their record label quite a bit this year.

Next up for me was the Switch Video room, in the main hall where Gui Boratto was spinning some refined, and very bouncy techno beats. Mmm...

Definitely a nice change of pace. I chilled there for a while before heading to catch Marco Remus and it really only got harder from there lol. Again, it was still pretty packed everywhere..

Remember this classic??? :) I couldn't believe it was transformed into such a hard track!! :wtf:

The kids were freaking nuts btw! I don't think I've seen so many people as excited about the music as so many of the people here were. People came from everywhere, young and old. I met people from Germany, Ireland, Croatia, Morocco, Belgium, Holland, Latvia, England, and plenty more places in just that night. I was the only American around to my knowledge, and certainly the only NYer. A lot of people took pictures with me because of that. They couldn't believe I'd come from so far :tongue2. Some people went all out with costumes etc, but my camera died so I didn't get to take many pics of all of the craziness. This will have to do... ;)

and a few more random pics..

The last few videos I got before my camera completely crapped out were of DJ's Ghost and Goose. Jesus wtf!! It was hardstyle madness!!

Hmm... Google Video is being stupid so I'll have to fill in the vids later on. Sry (x_x)

One last pic..

I checked out Technasia, Ben Sims, Felix da Housecat, DJ Rush, British Murder Boys, Dave Clarke, and I'm probably leaving out a few others.. ALL AMAZING THOUGH!! :toocool:

If I ever go again, I'll be sure not to party all night the night before, and maybe learn some French or Dutch so I can navigate the train system without getting lost lol. It was definitely an awesome awesome way to spend my birthday!! Got my sights set on Oxygen 2008 in Ireland next :p

Hope you enjoyed the review. Anyone who's got more media, feel free to add. :)

You took a picture of a bunch of guys peeing? Am I the only one who finds that kind of disturbing? Actually I can't figure out if that or the fact that there's a bunch of guys standing that close in a deep puddle of their own urine looking so jovial.

you're a pretty weird guy...

...also a lucky bastard! :disbelief

some day perhaps I will get to goto urine land...I mean I Love Techno... :toothless

i didnt get to go this year..last year was also amazing!!!!
I live about 30 minutes from there and it really is a cool hype on local radio & tele..
But then again, this is ONE festival you HAVE to make it to...it really is worth it..
no pop cheese trance vibe..

And the line ups can be impressive each time..
Next year I will make it !! I LOVE TECHNO! lol

P.S. almost at every event here in europe for outdoor festivals and what not you always have guys pissing like that on the side..heck i was at Werchter this year and saw a guy piss right in the middle of the crowd and everyone was laughing. anyway, thats how Euros roll..

lol, I did feel a little weird about taking the pic. I almost didn't but I thought it was too hilarious and I've definitely never seen anyone do anything like that here lol. At least I didn't take the pic from the front :stongue:

I also took picks of a homeless guy begging with his horse right beside him, and the telethons hosted by topless chicks while I was in Germany lolol!! :stongue: ... guess I am a bit weird :nervous: . This was my first overseas trip, I took pics of just about everything.

God damn it, lol. I set myself up a lot don't I lol.

By the way about every 20 minutes I'd see medical staff coming through the crowd of whatever room I was in wheeling a stretcher to collect a fallen clubber lol. Probably lots of heat exhaustion going on.
