:(

now, considering that climate change is a big BIG problem for all of those that have power (governments and big business) why exactly are they "filtering" the scientific opinion towards a consensus that is the very antithesis of their needs and desires?

i would very much like a concrete argument (as opposed to the generic "evil powerful people controlling our information access") regarding exactly who it is you feel is hi-jacking the global warming debate/evidence, and how they are doing so.

Big problems have big solutions, no?

Also, the very basis of the "shadow government with secret agendas" thing is completely based on the anonymity of its proprietors. If you knew who was really at the head of it all, it wouldn't be a very effective secret, now would it?

You want me to name names when there exists only a namelessness. In the meanwhile, JEWS AND FEMINISTS.

can i have what you are smoking? scientists are the most capable of evolving their opinions or theories when presented with facts that undermine their thesis.

Ideally.

A great Scientist would say "I don't know" when confronted with a question that is currently unanswerable. Maybe they would speculate if asked or would feel obligated to find a rational explanation, but in the end, scientists are humans who are trying to deal in a trade that is far above themselves. Chaos ensues.

But yeah, compared to, say, Fundamentalist Christians, scientists tend to be pretty agreeable and able to change their minds. :P

what "alternative methods of thought" are being "destroyed" by the current global warming debate?

The belief that baby seals are in fact being expelled from God's anus to melt our icecaps from beyond another dimension with their Laser eyes.

what evidence are they intentionally ignoring and who is making it?

Heh, you ask so many questions that only have answers you are expecting. Maybe you should start asking questions that don't have answers yet. you love scientists so much, why don't you think like them?

quote:
indeed, asides from scientific inquiry, what other methods do you see available to us to understand or explain our climate?

Are you really asking me this? Are you honestly not convinced yet that I am fully aware of what the scientific community's consensus is at this point? Maybe you just want me to say that we should all stay inside and light incense while asking our Ouija boards what to do when the sun shines too much outside? I am not doubtful of the scientific process. And that is not what I have been arguing about. The political polarization and its implications towards fascist logic and control are what interest me. Not because I believe I am being "lied" to at every moment, but because the possibility is, as far as even your precious science might be concerned, not utterly disproved.

Hell, even here in the southeast US, I've never seen a drought this bad, and meteorologists are saying its one of the worst in decades. Lake Okeechobee is at a record low. Georgia lakes are record lows. The state governments (Florida, Georgia, Alabama) are going nuts trying to figure out how share the water thats left. Europe has recently seen back-to-back record hot summers. The scary thing is these hotter summers are coming on year after year. These are not isolated events.

don't forget your brothers and sisters on the opposite side of the globe! we're in the middle of a drought so big there are water restrictions 365 days a year in most of the country. farmers in rural areas are going to the wall.

people are actually being killed over water. no kidding. read something the other day where a neighbour beat an old guy to death for supposedly ignoring water restrictions.

"DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE"

We may affect global climate we may not.

Global warming should and will continue to be a constant scientific debate.

Despite what many people believe, it has not, and will not be a proven fact any time soon.

We are just not that good at predicting weather...or even acurately tracking it.

Here are some interesting links about an error NASA made with regards to the 10 hottest years on record (these errors helped "Inconvenient Truth" make some powerful though now false statments).

Who are you quoting?

Anyone who says this has no scientific evidence to prove otherwise. So they fall below the logical fallacy I call slander. They have nothing good to say, so they talk about the speaker. Until the scientific consensus proves otherwise, all you climate change deniers are denying what's in right in front of your face.

Easy there, tiger. What actual research have YOU conducted on global warming that has lead to scientific consensus? Have you even BEEN to the ice caps to see that they are melting? How would you even recognize a melting ice cap if you saw one?

no, actually i was asking honest questions after an answer i presumed you had given your previous posts on this topic. if that is not the case, and you are merely hypothesising a possible mode of operations, then i shall ignore you :p

Once again, action towards climate change is good for the environment, so any of you s who still feel the need to nitpick findings and data can continue to do so, but you're not helping any cause other than that of pollution and waste.

Really, in this day and age, it should be universally accepted that this planet is not just a giant ing trash can that will swallow any crap we throw at it. It isn't. Eco-systems are dying, mass extinctions are happening, the ocean is turning acidic...whether you like it or not.

The ultimate question is, whose ing side are you on. That of the preservation of life or the destruction of it.

And pray tell, who the will benefit from global warming?

Warmer oceans mean more biodiversity.

It's may not be good for humans though, you're right.

oceans that warm too quickly for organisms to adapt basically destroy entire eco-systems.
