Awesome party, Jonas (overworld) really kicked the party off, followed by the best set i've seen nichol play... tenishia was nothing special, same as last time: Baker's set was ing awesome! seemed like a pretty bitter guy tho, when i talked to him afterwards, kept saying how long he'd been in the industry, but people didn't respect him, and how tiesto had stolen off him, and not payed him and stuff...
anyhow: giuseppe = champion. best set i've ever seen or heard. unbelievably uplifting, but with no trace of cheese.
WHAT-A-ING-GUN!

| Holy crap this was the frickin best event Ive bin to in a long time.Exactly the sort of venue, crowd, tunes I love.No messy skank arse ravers ruining it for everyone by being human chemical spills.I enjoyed the no rave wear aspect and Alumbra being a really nice club.Only crap things were no stools outside, stood for so long my legs were killing me at the end of the day,too hot dunno if the air con was working, ridiculously hard to operate sensored taps that were hot so u couldnt fill up ur water bottle(its illegal to not provide free water)especially in that heat. But all in all awesome party.Walter I knew u would almost wet urself with laughter at our chokko friend with the really tight pants! Was wicked meeting Radshuffle and Fpcookie.James ur a champ.I was so happy I almost burst when Tenishia and Giusppe played.Met most of the djs and got photos with them.Mike Nichol and Ben Jackson were both full of energy and played bangin sets.So whens the next one?I cant wait. |

heys ppls. Got a new name here now (well, its my normal name everywhere else). I somehow stuffed my old account and hadnt used for ages (aka DJ_Stevie). Not a regular poster here, more of a reader!
As much I still love the big vibe, friends and great acts at Summadayze (as I have been the last 7 odd years). Im a bit older now so parties are very few and far between. Muzzadayze has gotten way to big and I am not up for lining up to take a leak for 1hr, queueing for the dancefloor or feeling like a sardine for most of the day. Not to mention sliding off he-mans greasey arms in 35+ degree heat.
I went to Apollo to hear some quality trance, hoping it wasnt too packed and was cool. Sure enough it was fantastic in that regard. Relaxed vibe, plenty of space (not overcrowded), cool, easy access to bar and toilets, no fluffy bunnies, reflectors, dummies (sorry to offend anyone - but I think the time for that dress code has passed). Was not going to have a big night so to speak, but that changed.
Some of my comments about the DJ sets I saw:
- Overworld. Very interesting set. All original psy/hard trance, banging, really enjoyed it, not cheesey. Top bloke too, really friendly. Found out a bit more to what was involved in a live set as I didnt really know.
- Mike Nichol. Gold as usual. Huge set with the crazy Nichol in your face changes. Dropping his own tunes. Lost for Words and Imagine remix (those tunes are going places!). Huge classics, third track in, cant recall name massive uplifter. Bullet it my heart or whatever its called !? Awesome, really got the crowd going. And of course Durado, Emphase, Pulsar remix (gotta get that tune out there!!!). Awesome to see 2 of his tunes made into ASOT's top tunes for 2007. Expect many more in the 2008 listing, starting with the first 2 tunes he played in that set!!! Hats off to him.
- Tenisha. A most welcomed Mystery DJ Set! Seemed to have a little trouble with the sound initially, but he got it sorted out pretty quick. Banging stuff, love the big build up's. Some great tunes, cant recall the names (Outsider was one).
- LCK & Willis. Banging as usual. Probably a little too hard for me but was good none the less. Everyone was moving!
- Fred Baker. Baker, Baker, Fred f&^)n Baker? Man can this guy belt out a set and half. Was expecting something a bit slower for some reason (?!). Starting with Fly Away CG mix was enough to get me hooked. But he hammered it all the way. Some huge remixes and classics, Adagio for Strings blew the roof off. Too many more to mention. Mixing was insane. Sort of eased off toward the end which was nice coz I nearly fell over.
- Trent McDerrmott. Great set. Some really banging hard tunes. Probably a little hard for me these days. That first one he played. Really wierd oldish hard trance tune. Cant recall name. Brought back some memories. Couple of small hicups at the end. Didnt matter tho, the rest was all good.
- Guiseppe. One word = Woah. Wasnt sure what to expect as I have not heard this guy or been a huge fan of his productions (perhaps I havent heard enough - someone please enlighten me). An hour or more of setup. The equipment up there which was far too confusing for me as I know nothing about these 'live set' arrangements. Unbelievable sounds, melodies, driving beats, breaks, SO UPLIFTING, one after another, so much talent and skill, my god. Dunno what the hell he was doing up there. So glad I saw this guy. Will be seeing him again. Awesome way to cap off the night.
Only downside of the night I would say was the sound system on the dancefloor. Maybe I am getting deaf in my old age. But seemed to be very muddy. Couldnt really appreciate the mixing skill or the tune quality until I went out into the main bar where it was much clearer in terms of high end clarity but then lacked the low end.
OK. This post is far too long now. Great to meet some TA's, old party acquaintances and even school friends from 16yrs ago?! Eg. Chris, Cookie, Marak, Walter (very funny man), Dave, LCK, Julian Reyonds, Trent McDermott, Mike Nichol, sorry if missed anyone. Super Special thanks to Chris, his lovely wife and crew for the drive home, REALLY appreciate, cant believe we practically live a stone throw away from each other! Thanks again. |

That was so annoying.
Although not as annoying as hearing take me away get overplayed. If I ever hear it again, let alone x amount of times in a day, somebody gonna get a hurt! |
