Annoying Requests

At one of the parties that i dj'ed this weekend ppl kept asking me if i could put on hip hop. I had made it clear that i only play electronica (mainly funky and dirty electro house) yet a couple ppl kept asking me over and over again to put on hip hop. I got sooo annoyed! i told them to go turn on the radio if you wanted to hear hip hop. Im on the decks and i just dont play hip hop.

Also the peoples house that i played at were fully aware that i was playing electronic music but still there are just some naggy ppl that just want a familar sound.

i mean even my mom is all about electronica!

bottom line: people need to expand their musical horizons

that's why i don't do house or private parties anymore.

you learn from experience. people just never change so why hope for an ideal setting when you know it's gonna be just another house party.

i definently feel you. hopefully ill work my way up and eventually play at events where ppl come to hear the type of music i play

You'll still get requests though.

hiphop is soo weak. every once in a while you will hear a song with a nice beat and detailed bass line. the stupid lyrics still ruin it though.

yeh i learnt the hard way this summer with spinning house parties. you can scream till ur blue telling the host that u only spin house or whatever, and yeh they will say "oh its cool, everyones ok with that just do your thing man!". but you still get whiney peeps asking for the latest cat dolls or chris brown track. GAH!

You could be at a club on a specific electronic night and you will still get requests like this.

I've had people ask me like, 'Are you going to keep playing the same song all night?' ect... And this is at specifically electronic nights. So yea just realize you will always get stupid requests. Just try to be nice about it. Tell them sorry I don't have that and move on. If they keep bothering you then ignore then.

When asked for hip hop just play some breakbeat with vocals... this is my standard response to every hip hop thread till a random jaded person tells me I'm an idiot and completely wrong for saying it.

Snoop Dogg - Drop It Like It's Hot (Sharam Jey Remix) is 125BPM breakbeat, pure bliss. Works with 95% of hiphop-heads, the rest 5% -> ignore.
