GREAT party. Alex Smoke blew everyone else away if you ask me. Samim was decent, good songs but as a mix it didn't really go anywhere. And then had to go everything up by playing that god-awful song Heater for 3 different mixes of it in a row. HEATER. I hate that song and all the bull/hype surrounding it. Lee Curtiss was really good, minimal to the end, it's a shame the crowd thinned out.

All in all, it was a great night of music and fun with some good friends.

what did the cover end up being? i was told 20-30 and we were too lazy to wait in the long ass line outside so we ended up at 1015 then someone's house. strange night...

yeah, alex smoke was definitely the best of the night.. excellent! i'm probably giving samim the benefit of the doubt since i may have been too wasted to fairly judge by then.

yeah yeah, i know, but c'mon.. you know it had to be done... gotta hear it from the source itself at least once.

lee curtiss may have been the most representative of typical kontrol nights. and as for the crowd thinning out early... i think the crowd was more socializing hipster types than usual. also the mist/rain made the outdoor area a bit too wet to chill and sit out in.

we got there about 10:20 and it was free :D free before 11 iirc.

ill admit i was a bit drunk towards the end too, so many long islands :happy2: and talking to samim made me like him more i guess. i know heater is a bit cheesy but its a still fun track IMO

any idea what controller samim was using? will try to go through my photos/videos tonight

i was also trying to figure that out since he just stood there so tightly in the corner of the booth.

one thing for sure is that if anyone goes to a kontrol party, you should bring ear plugs. i couldn't stand how loud it was that night, so i spent most of it outside. at times it was pretty unbearable and felt like my ears drums were going to burst.

it got pretty cold, so i left to head up to check out 1015. who ever open that night did a pretty good job and the first few tracks of alex smoke were superb. but seriously, what's the point of bumping it if it gets distorted at times.

this seems a little negative, but at least the people were cool and nice. :D

I was definitely glad I brought mine, though I thought Alex Smoke actually did a great job of keeping the EQ's clean and crisp. Didn't need the earplugs until some of Samim's tracks, and kept them in for Lee Curtiss. The Endup's sound system is not to be underestimated and the space is small, and I bring earplugs every time I go to Ruby Skye and 1015 anyway. Mezzanine though, that Funktion 1 is so clear I never need them, and Mighty is usually fine too.

so i knew it was a "special surprise guest" and i suspected it was gong to be alex smoke since he's next playing in LA in a couple days.

being totally sober this time, i can confirm all our initial reviews that alex smoke kicks ass! he went on at 12, and i could only stick around for around 45 min of his set, but he was a crowd pleaser from the first track on (which isn't always the case with the minimal techno/ techhouse kind of djs). oh, and that 222 hyde basement is very cool when packed like that.

he has some current playlists on his myspace, and i definitely plan on checking out some of those tracks.

rizo, pics and videos are great! i'll be using this batch to help convince my end up/kontrol virgin friends to check it out. and always amazed that your compact camera can capture the sound so well in the videos. and it even captured the strobes so well in these vids.
