i want YOU

... to please help me out by answering a few questions
(this essay is due tomorrow and this is the last component I need to ground my research and my thesis in some REAL answers from REAL people)

Brutal honesty is all I want - don't overthink these too much - just give me what first comes to your head

I didn't have time to make this an online survey (balls, i know)
PM or post or email your answers to me
[email protected]

These answers are KEY to the successful proving of my thesis and your help is INSANELY appreciated
xoxoxo

1. Why do you go to "underground" EDM events?

2. Besides a love for the music, what else do you gain from attending such events?

3. What material objects constitute this experience for you? (glowsticks, sunglasses, MDMA, other drugs, alcohol, certain clothing etc.)

4. Do you believe that electronic dance music is subcultural in essence? Do you believe that the "rave" experience opposes the mainstream?

5. On average, how much money do you spend when you go to an event like this?

6. Do you believe that a DJ loses some of his appeal once his music is played on the radio?

7. What do you think of Armin van Buuren?

8. Name some of your favourite sub-genres of EDM

Don't worry about numbering anything. (although it would be appreciated :) )
Point form or paragraph or just blurt stuff - don't matter.
Just write me
THANK YOU!!!

I'm not real. I'm just a figment of your imagination.

Behold! Electrons floating across your screen. That is me! :D

(srsly, how do you expect to get a decent sample for a poll on a one day notice? lol)

You may want to edit out your email... Don't want to get phished and get spammed.

1. Why do you go to "underground" EDM events?
-Because I love the music. Plus it is good to hang around with friends.

2. Besides a love for the music, what else do you gain from attending such events?
-chilling out with friends

3. What material objects constitute this experience for you? (glowsticks, sunglasses, MDMA, other drugs, alcohol, certain clothing etc.)
-uh, friends?

4. Do you believe that electronic dance music is subcultural in essence? Do you believe that the "rave" experience opposes the mainstream?
-Not really. The difference between a 'rave' crowd and 'mainstream' crowd is the type of music played. While the crowd in each might be different, in the end, most people want to go out to have fun. (now what fun may consist be very different from person to person)

5. On average, how much money do you spend when you go to an event like this?
-uh, on average, incl. transportation costs I think I spend min 30 and usually a max of 100.

6. Do you believe that a DJ loses some of his appeal once his music is played on the radio?
-only among music snobs... which I admit I am from time to time.
generally, more 'underground' EDM will not appeal to most mainstream crowds. so if a producers make something that appeals to wider audience, it means more people get interested in EDM, and maybe even later they might get into the more 'underground' EDM genres.

Nor do I automatically believe that once an EDM hits the radios, it means that a producer has 'sold out' or gone cheese. I don't think many people would bad mouth DJ/producers like Daft Punk or Moby, Chemical Bros, Orbital, etc, just because they feature on the mainstream media.

7. What do you think of Armin van Buuren?
-once brilliant DJ and producer, now an example of downfall of trance. I suppose he'd appeal to noobs just getting into trance

8. Name some of your favourite sub-genres of EDM
-lol. I enjoy everything from deep house to hard techno. However my current favourite genre is progressive house.
Cosmic Fur
1. Good, loud music + drugs + an atmosphere of everyone going nuts to the music make for an unmatched combination. Sometimes better than sex.

2. Exposure to the scene I'm into. I find the more I go out to these events, the more the scene integrates me into itself.

3. MDMA, weed, crowd, sometimes DJ.

4. Judging by the number of people on TA who get all pissy when their golden idol PVD gains a little more exposure, yes.

5. Depends on the night: $5-$100

6. I don't, but many jaded retards do.

7. Poster-boy who plays the fluffy kind of Trance that satisfies the void created by the e-tards who need music to give sensual massages to.

8. Drum & Bass. Recently reeally into Liquid Funk. Breaks (pure Breaks, not House with an extra kick). Harder side of Trance. Techno. Psy Trance. Hardstyle.

1. Why do you go to "underground" EDM events?
- i think EDM events are not underground anymore, so I go to just EDM events :)
I enjot the music, seeing friends and dancing

2. Besides a love for the music, what else do you gain from attending such events?
- positive energy from dancing, exercise, socializing

3. What material objects constitute this experience for you? (glowsticks, sunglasses, MDMA, other drugs, alcohol, certain clothing etc.)
- dark colors, special accessories (arm socks, leg warmers)

4. Do you believe that electronic dance music is subcultural in essence? Do you believe that the "rave" experience opposes the mainstream?
- no, I think EDM has subcultures within it, but as it is, it's a separate culture. "rave" does not directly oppose "the mainstream", i'd say they go hand-in-hand

5. On average, how much money do you spend when you go to an event like this?
- 15-20$ (with a car ride), $70-80 without

6. Do you believe that a DJ loses some of his appeal once his music is played on the radio?
- yes and no, also depends what radio (online radios don't count)... a good Dj doesn't have to be an "underground" Dj to be good :)

7. What do you think of Armin van Buuren?
- was my #1 Dj for a while, now still in the top 5, but I'm moving away to more progressive sounding trance... he's becoming a bit of a 2nd Tiesto

8. Name some of your favourite sub-genres of EDM
- progressive, house, funky house, trance

1. I go to EDM events for music, girls, drugs and dancing. All these together make an awesome night out that tops pretty much any other activity.

2. I gain new friendships and an empty wallet lol

3. Alcohol, mdma, other drugs and the DJ.

4. There are a few subcultures but in the it's all about the music and just having a good time.

5. 5$-150$ Depends on the night.

6. No. I actually enjoy hearing some EDM on the radio. In the end the more people that listen to it, the better.

7. No comment.

8. House music!
