Within the next few days I will be getting rid of my current computer and start using my new computer. On my current computer I have I-tunes to work with my Ipod. i have about 9GB on my ipod at the moment (which is the same as what is in my library)

there are 123 albums on there and the rest are single tracks.

will i have to upload everything back onto my Ipod or is there some sort of way of transferring the library onto my new computer. it taken approx 11 months to put all this music on my pod, and dont really what to repeat this again, not unless i have to. All the tracks & cds were stored onto the C drive but ive recently transfered my entire music collection (excluding Cd's) onto a 500GB external hard disk. Does this complicate matters more.

What the best & easiest way of getting around this.

Any suggestions welcome

Well what I did when i transfered my library was I transfered both the music files to the next computer and the itunes library file (located in my documents/music) Then when I imported everything to my new computer I moved the Library file into the new itunes system folder and opened itunes, at first it will not be able to find any of the tracks in your library but once u go to settings and change the location of your library everything will be the same as the last.

I got a new computer last week and I had to migrate my library as well. After messing around with iTunes, I figured it out and it's quite simple. All you have to do is hit File, Export Library and iTunes will save a file of the structure of your library to your hard drive. You should notice where this file saves and then move it to the new computer. Now, when you are going to move to your new computer, all you have to do to ensure everything works is that you keep file paths the same. By this I mean if you kept your files in a folder with a path of C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes or something like that, the path has to be the same on the new computer. Otherwise, the exported library is useless. So if your old computer had all of your music files in the My Music folder on C: Drive, put them there on the new computer.

From within iTunes in the new computer, hit File, Import and find the Library.xml file you exported earlier. As long as the directories for all the music files are the same, it'll take just a few minutes to import (based on the size of your library).
