I like the atmosphere of the track the synths sound very like old german trance. Think when the two synths are together sounds a bit busy maybe take out a couple of notes.
Think the kick could do with being harder and more percussive elements to give the tune more drive.

thanks for taking the time to check out the tune.
ill see what i can do with the kick. i've switched it out once already since the earlier one didn't have the bite i was looking for. it was too bassy.
Im not sure which synths you are referring to since i put up a second demo before you posted. if you are referring to the first track on the page i've already leveled out the volume of the mid synth a bit more since it was punching through more than what i wanted in the chorus. if it was the second song, i think you are talking about the middle part with the wailing arp synth.
took a listen to your stuff. I knew you had to at least listen to hardcore before even reading your profile. love the acid lines. always wanted to learn to make them just never sat down and applied myself to it :haha:

Overall it's just cleaning/shaping your sounds with some eq/compression and tightening up your mix down.
Just an example - Untitled 2:04 - You could pull the volume of the spoken sample back and then eq it for better clarity and then compress it to make it sit in the mix better. It kinda pops out and overshadows when the beat drops in since it is at a higher lvl than everything else.
I don't know what kind of gear you are using but a trick I learned about mix down is to not look at the meters on your mixer. They might look even but that isn't what makes a "balanced" mix.
Example - The new track I'm working on uses 2 synths both playing the same line. I eq the bassy one for the low end and cut the bass out of the middle one so its just mid and very little high frequencies. When they are mixed the mid-bass is set to a lower volume. I do this because it isn't meant to drive the track. Just add some harmonics to the lower bass.
If you do it well you should be able to play the track and hear a nice bass line that sounds like one instrument but when you mute the mid-bass channel you should notice that there is "something" missing. You might be able to hear it slightly and that is all you want. Nothing major, just little bits of flavor.
Well I hope I didn't ramble on too much and I hope I got what I was trying to say across. Along with mix down I inadvertently covered bass too :haha: |
